A hop, skip, and jump from Dallas & under $1000 for a family of four would  be a visit to historic Vicksburg, Mississippi.  It is about a six  hour drive from Dallas. As well as,  Southwest Airlines flies into Jackson, MS (40 miles from Vicksburg).   Hotel rates are very economical. They range $45 to $85.  Vicksburg’s antebellum bed & breakfast inns range from $85 to $175. Restaurants are also reasonably priced. 

Admission to attractions ranges from $2 to $3 for adults to  all of  five  museums and $4 per car into its major attraction, the Vicksburg National Military Park.  The highest priced attraction is the Mississippi River Adventure hydro-jet boat cruise on the Mississippi River. Rates are: $16 (adult) and  $8 (children under 12). Vicksburg also has four casinos.

A family of four could experience an fun & relaxing trip for under $1000.
