BEAU NASH HOTEL

by Madelyn Miller

If Olympic Pizza is the mainstream pizza, Beau Nash offers some trendy upscale choices.

I tried a smoked Salmon Pizza with Caviar and Dill ($13.75).  That sounds like a lot for a 10" pizza, but if you consider that it is bigger than four bagels with lox and cream cheese, it is a reasonable value. The thin crust was crispy but I would have liked a little more cream cheese, to meld the ingredients together. My companion enjoyed the angel hair pasta with lump crabmeat, tomato and basil pesto ($8.00 appetizer portion, $16.00 entree)

The problem at Beau Nash wasn't the food the night I dined there. Although they were only a about 2/3 full that evening, we waited over an hour for our order. I figured that Domino's could have delivered it faster. Or I could have driven up to Olympic Pizza, ordered it to go, and brought it back. This was especially frustrating in a restaurant like Beau Nash where you expect great service. Mind you, it is a nice place to wait, what with the dark woods, comfortable chairs, and great people watching opportunities. But if I hadn't been the guest of Travel Guide host Katherine Burgess, I think I would have left.

Desserts were worth waiting for, and they came surprisingly quickly. We enjoyed homemade raspberry sorbet and a hazelnut cake in a caramel sauce ($5.50 each).

This experience made me wonder if sometime expensive restaurants try to take longer so you feel like you've spent enough time there to justify the money spent.
