This Isn't Your Father's ‘Family Vacation’

Canadian Mountain Holidays
offers a trip both parents and teenagers will love

If the thought of a summer vacation with the family is your teenager’s worst nightmare, test this vacation out for the ‘cool’ factor:  The entire family is whisked away on a breathtaking helicopter ride and dropped off at a spectacular 8,000 foot ridge to start your afternoon hike.  Each family member joins the group of their choice to hike as far as 10 miles, or as little as one mile to take in the incredible untouched landscape.  Afterward, you all meet at the luxury lodge to enjoy a relaxing evening of gourmet meals, whirlpools and saunas.

This is obviously not your father’s family vacation.  It’s a Canadian Mountain Holidays heli-hiking vacation – a chance for the entire family to enjoy the beauty and solitude of a mountain getaway, free from phones, faxes and computers.  Hikers and their guides are flown to the spectacular alpine region, sparing hours of trudging through sub-alpine terrain to reach the panoramic views that await.  Each day, the helicopter lifts hikers to a new area so they can cover more ground and seek out different vistas.  The terrain covers the whole landscape spectrum from montane to alpine including flowered meadows, rugged glaciers, clear lakes and high ridges.

A heli-hiking trip is the ideal getaway for families with teenage children.  It offers a chance for the whole family to be together, yet also lets each family member pursue their own interests, challenging themselves at their own skill level.  For instance, your teenager might like to learn rock scrambling, while mom and dad go on a nature photography hike.  The whole family can meet up at the end of the day for a relaxing dinner and lively conversation about their new experiences.  Teenagers and adults alike will love telling friends about their “extreme getaway” vacation to a land seen by few human eyes.

CMH has a trip for almost anyone who appreciates the great outdoors, whether you are a novice or a seasoned mountaineer.  No special equipment or clothing is necessary.  CMH provides everything you will need for your adventures.  Guests are divided into small groups according to interests and abilities.  Each group has its own guide who will share his or her knowledge on the area’s botany, geography and geology.

After a full day of hiking, the group returns to the luxury of the lodge to be pampered by the staff.  Each lodge accommodates up to 44 guests in comfortable private rooms, has a full-service bar, a large living room with a fireplace, and a lounge area surrounded by outdoor sundecks.  Guests can relax in the whirlpool or sauna or book a session with a masseuse.

“Adventure vacations are the perfect way to put everything behind you for a few days and just enjoy the simple beauty of the outdoors and get back in touch with yourself,” said Jane Hay of Canadian Mountain Holidays.  “Our guests experience such a sense of pride and achievement from
