Western Heritage of TexasFt. Worth StockyardsMADELYN MILLER "the travel lady" was asked by the Dallas CBS-TV affiliate to do a show on FAMILY VACATIONS FOR FOUR FOR UNDER $1000 from Dallas. Here is one of the possibilities - Take a trip into the Western heritage of Texas. A short modern day drive to the City of Grapevine will place you in one of North Texas' historic communities where the Tarantula Steam Train will take you into the Fort Worth Stockyards National Historic District. Upon arrival, take a surrey, carriage or buckboard a little farther west and check into Miss Molly's Bed & Breakfast Hotel located upstairs over the Star Cafe. While you're in the Stockyards, mosey on down to the Livery and rent some horses and ride along the old Chisholm Trail alongside the Trinity River. You can even sign up with the folks at River Ranch for a chuck wagon dinner! Check out the rodeo events and practice sessions at both the Cowtown Coliseum or the outdoor arena by the Stockyards Station Livery. Of course, there's dining and shopping at your choices from fifteen restaurants and more than twenty specialty retail establishments - all within walking distance from Miss Molly's! And don't forget to visit the Stockyards Museum located in the Live Stock Exchange Building, and NOW (revived from the 1890's!) view the Fort Worth Herd - some real live longhorn cattle herded daily by some real live cowboys! The experience can be extended as long as you like by extending your range of exploration to include the many museums in Fort Worth, Sundance Square, the Fort Worth Zoo, the Log Cabin Village, the Botanical Gardens, Thistle Hill, etc. But as they say at Miss Molly's, "You don't have to go very far to be somewhere else when you visit the Fort Worth Stockyards!"
