WHAT HOTELS DONT WANT YOU TO KNOWDiscount Travel Pioneer Helps Travelers Save MoneyDiscount travel pioneer, Larry Fishkin says there is a secret that hotel operators would prefer you not to know about. For the same price, or up to 60% less than an average hotel room in popular destinations such as Orlando or Hawaii, travelers can rent a one or two-bedroom luxury resort condominium. Fishkin is a long-time consumer advocate and one of the early pioneers of discount cruising. He owned the second largest discount cruise retail outlet in the country until its sale in 1996. "Just as over capacity in the cruise industry has benefited, and will continue to benefit savvy cruise travelers by driving down prices," he said, "it's also a key factor in other segments of the vacation market." One of these market segments is a luxury resort condo, which Fishkin says is currently the travel industry's best kept secret. Unlike suite hotels, resort condos typically feature a full-size and fully equipped kitchen, separate living room, and master bedroom, in addition to resort amenities such as swimming pools and playgrounds. "In terms of economy and value, there's simply no comparison," he says. "Normal rates for a suite hotel in Orlando are typically around $99-$159 per night. Compare that to a two-bedroom resort condo from only $79 per night. The average price of a standard hotel room on Hawaii's Big Island is $175 per night, according to industry sources. But if you know where to look, you can rent a two-bedroom condo for as low as $109 per night. So you get more space, more convenience, and more comfortat a fraction of the price." These days, Fishkin spends his time searching for and finding unique travel offers. His philosophy is to take advantage of unused space at quality resorts and cruises, and pass the savings on to consumers. In addition to Orlando and Hawaii, the Leisure Link International web site features vacation specials to Las Vegas, Lake Tahoe, Vail, Palm Springs, Branson, Scottsdale and Sedona, Hilton Head, Myrtle Beach, Daytona Beach, the Florida Gulf Coast and South Florida The Leisure Link web site also features a continuous stream of last minute cruises. One recent offer was a seven-night Eastern Caribbean cruise aboard a 5-Star ship departing from Ft. Lauderdale, for $499 per person including port chargesairfare additional.
