Cinderella On Ice
One of the world’s favorite fairytales!
The magic of Cinderella and it’s all… On Ice !
Dallas Summer Musicals Broadway Contemporary Series
brings a very special holiday treat to The Majestic Theatre, 1925 Elm Street
in downtown Dallas, for 10 performances only December 21-26.
The
internationally acclaimed St. Petersburg State Ballet On Ice brings all the
magic and excitement of a glittering winter Russian palace to North
America. Choreographed by Konstantin Rassadin of the famed Kirov Ballet,
this troupe of world-renowned skaters continue to delight audiences of all
ages and garner rave reviews with magnificent costumes, lavish sets and
sheer visual brilliance.
With its debut in 1967, Constantine Boyarski
established ice ballet in Russia. By combining classical dance with the
sport of figure skating, a new genre was born. Based on the Nutcracker,
Boyarski produced the first ice ballet performance, to the music of
Tchaikovsky, bearing the name of the Crystal Palace. Crystal Palace was an
immediate success with Russian audiences.
Since that first performance, the St. Petersburg State
Ballet On Ice has been seen in over 5,000 performances by audiences
worldwide. The company of 100 medal-winning skaters graces the ice in
tours of such classics as Beauty and the Beast, The Nutcracker, Sleeping
Beauty, Swan Lake, Romeo and Juliet, and of course, the beloved and magical
Cinderella.
Cinderella On Ice is a rich and unique version of the
world famous Prokofiev Ballet. In this magical production celebrating the
romance and beauty of one of the world’s favorite fairytales, gnomes,
fairies and beautiful ladies in luxurious ball gowns glide across the ice in
a display of grace, agility and emotion.
Cinderella On Ice is choreographed by Konstantin
Rassadin of the Kirov Ballet, who upon graduation from the Academy of
Russian Ballet was invited to join the renowned ballet troupe of the
Maryinsky Theatre of Opera and Ballet of St. Petersburg (formally the Kirov
Theatre). For 23 years, he occupied the position of ballet “star”, having
brilliantly premiered more than two dozen leading roles, performing with
ballerinas such as Natalia Dudinskaya, Alla Shelest, Alla Osipenko, Natalia
Markarova, and danseurs Konstantin Sergeev, Rudolf Nuriyev and Mikhail
Baryshnikov. He worked with the great ballet masters Yuri Grigorovich and
Leonid Yakobson, and studied at the St. Petersburg Conservatory.
After receiving his first award for choreography, Mr.
Rassadin began producing classical ballets and programs for theatre
throughout the USSR and in 1980 joined the St. Petersburg Ice Ballet in the
capacity of its Principal Choreographer.
“A thrilling combination of grace and power!” hails The
Washington Post. This is Cinderella as you’ve never seen it before.
