New Action Sports Hotel Chain
Cabarete, Dominican Republic.
It's a hotel and new business
model designed to cater specifically to the whims of action sport fans
everywhere. They're called eXtreme Hotels and they will soon offer their
distinctive services at handpicked locations all over the world.
The Concept:
The eXtreme Hotels concept was born from the personal
search of entrepreneur Bill Lee for world-class surfing spots, instruction and
nightlife. A frequent business traveler, Lee was used to the signature service
of international world-class properties known for excellent staffing, amenities
and convenient locations in key metropolitan markets. He found that no such
synonymous brand existed in the action sports world. Sensing a niche, Lee
sought to find the first eXtreme Hotel location to launch his next newest
business venture.
The Flagship Property: eXtreme Cabarete
The flagship property for
the boutique chain is eXtreme Cabarete. Located on the North Coast of the
Dominican Republic, the 20-room hotel is directly on Kite Beach, recognized as
one of the best places on the planet for the fastest growing water sport of
kiteboarding. To round out the action sport experience, the hotel has just
completed building the world's first below ground professional skateboard fun
ramp, "Six Feet Under". The 39' x 49' fun ramp was designed by Helmut Ludwig and
Hans-Peter Hutter, former top European skateboarding pro's, and is already
attracting the attention of skateboarders internationally. eXtreme Cabarete is
just minutes from top-notch surfing at Encuentro Beach, home to the annual Latin
Surf Classic, and is also home to "Six Feet Over", a reef break directly in
front of eXtreme Cabarete for intermediate to advanced surfers. Scuba diving,
Motocross, canyoning, river rafting, mountain biking, hiking, golfing and scenic
tours are also close by.
Just a 2-hour flight from
Miami, 3 hours from New York, and 8 hours from London, the hotel is 20 minutes
from Puerto Plata airport. Rooms are available in single and double occupancy
and range from $35 - $70 per night depending on the season. As the main sport
for the eXtreme Cabarete location is kiteboarding, the hotel is equipped with
kite lockers, beach showers, compressor air pumps, equipment areas, and on-site
kite/board repair i.e. amenities that make the property a kiteboarder's dream.
eXtreme Cabarete is the proud home to Kitexcite -- the leading kite school in
Cabarete with 14+ IKO certified instructors, advanced teaching methods and aids
for all rider levels, as well as new and used gear for lessons, rental and
sales. As kiteboarders live and die by the wind, eXtreme Cabarete maintains an
internet weather and wind forecasting site, live webcams, and free wireless
internet at the eXtreme Bar, Lounge and lobby so guests can check on the latest
weather ! and see what conditions lay ahead for their holiday. After a full day
of riding or exploring, eXtreme guests can chill out with the eXtreme Girls at
the eXtreme Beach Bar or Lounge which features pool tables, TV's and gaming
areas before heading out to downtown Cabarete, just a short mile away. This
one-mile strip is host to beachfront restaurants and bars, where partygoers
spill out onto the beaches as DJ's from all over the world spin their music into
the wee hours of the morning.
eXtreme Cabarete has already hosted a number of pro's
including #1 ranked PKRA Champion rider Aaron Hadlow, extreme sportsman Hamish
McDonald, Australian kiteboarding personalities Boony and Balls, and Chuck
Patterson, one of the world's leading tow surfers, snowboarders and kiteboarders.
These riders provided free lessons and clinics during their stays, as well as
just added to the overall great atmosphere and vibe of eXtreme. Pro clinics and
special visitors will continue to be part of the eXtreme guest experience.
eXtreme Cabarete will host its first cross-sport competition in the summer of
2005. The "eXtreme Summer Mayhem Games" will feature top ranked athletes
competing for prize money in surfing, skateboarding, kiteboarding and tow-in
aerial surfing. The winner that demonstrates the mastery of all three
disciplines will be crowned the eXtreme King or Queen of Mayhem.
The Future
eXtreme Hotels is privately financed by West Coast
Holdings, a US based investment firm founded by Bill Lee, a former technology
CEO and executive.
eXtreme Cabarete is planning to build 15-30 condominiums on
the property adjacent to the hotel starting Fall 2005. The condominiums will be
priced from $75,000 to $250,000 (subject to change).
In order to ensure that each property provides an
unparalleled sporting experience, eXtreme Hotels is very selective in choosing
hotel locations. The criterion for each hotel is extensive yet simple. An
eXtreme Hotel must be situated in an easily accessible, world-class location for
an extreme sport. The opportunity for other action and outdoor activities must
also be on-premise or nearby. Excellent nightlife is crucial to the eXtreme
guest experience so each property will not only be close to an exciting downtown
center, but also home to the eXtreme Girls and Beach Bar/Lounge. All properties
will be technologically sophisticated and synonymous with comfort, quality and
service. Each property will additionally have a top-notch school along with
amenities specific to the property's main sport. eXtreme will host top-ranked
pros throughout the year, allowing guests to rub shoulders and learn from the
world's leading athletes. And, every eXtreme Hotel will sponsor an annual
cross-sport competition allowing locals and visitors to witness the best of the
best battling it out to claim the winning titles.
