What’s Brewing on the Big Island?

CRAFT BEER, FOOD AND MUSIC ABOUND AT KONA BREWERS FESTIVAL
The 12th annual Kona Brewers Festival will tap up a wave of
more than 60 types of ales and lagers, served alongside delectable island-style
cuisine from 25 Hawaii chefs on Saturday, March 10, 2007, on Hawaii’s Big
Island. The sell-out event features craft beer, tantalizing food, live music and
entertainment outdoors on the shore of Kailua Bay at King Kamehameha's Kona
Beach Hotel in Kailua-Kona from 2:30 to 6:30 p.m.
Each of 30 breweries from Hawaii and the mainland United
States will tap up two types of beer, ranging in flavor from sweet and fruity to
bitter and hoppy to dark and roasty. Chefs from 25 of Hawaii's top restaurants
will serve a tropical cornucopia of gourmet food, such as sushi, barbecued ribs,
kalua pork, mahi mahi and a sweet selection of desserts.
An impressive hula and oli (chant) will announce the
beginning of the event. Three local bands will provide musical entertainment
throughout the day. The annual Trash Fashion Show, designed to raise awareness
of the importance of recycling, will show off fun and whimsical attire made from
recycled material such as bottle caps, cardboard and tires.
The Kona Brewers Festival is a community fundraising event
that promotes the craft brewery revolution in Hawaii and encourages professional
brewers and chefs to work together. The event raises funds for environmental,
educational and cultural organizations. It has raised more than $225,000 over
the past 11 years.
Tickets to the Kona Brewers Festival are available in
advance only. Cost is $45 and includes a commemorative event mug, eight
four-ounce brew tasting coupons, unlimited samplings of gourmet cuisine and an
afternoon of entertainment. Other events leading up to the Kona Brewers Festival
include a beer and food pairing dinner and a golf tournament. For information
