Buddy Bathing

Excelsior Springs’  World Famous Mineral Waters

The art of the bath is back in Excelsior Springs, Missouri so grab some buddies and go bathing!  Missouri invites travelers to escape to Excelsior Springs for a relaxing and rejuvenating soak in the native mineral waters that have bubbled up from beneath the surface since the Paleozoic era.

Long revered by American Indians as the “Valley of Vitality” for its waters, Excelsior Springs, located minutes north of Kansas City, has more types of naturally occurring mineral water than anywhere else in the world.  More than 49 wells and springs offer five different types of mineral water iron manganese, calcium bicarbonate, a category of waters known as sulpho saline, soda bicarbonate and lithia.

The Hall of Waters Spa and the Elms Resort & Spa, both located in Excelsior Springs, welcome travelers to “take to the waters.”   Using the finest in hydrotherapy equipment and techniques, these health spas allow the modern-day traveler to sample ancient treatments.

Built in 1888, The Elms Resort and Spa once was visited by hundreds of thousands of visitors who came to the area to enjoy the native mineral waters, which were used to detoxify the body and treat everything from indigestion to arthritis.

Today, guests can enjoy not only mineral baths and whirlpools they can transcend the traditional spa experience and explore the resort’s holistic focus on the renewal of the body, mind and spirit.  Swiss and Vichy showers, mineral-enriched seaweed and thermal blankets, hydrotherapy, salt glow and body polish exfoliation, Oriental arts and meditation classes, massage therapy and reflexology top the menu of services.  Using the native mineral waters, the Elms provides traditional, ancient and contemporary treatments for relaxation, stress reduction and healthy living.

Situated on 16.1 acres of gently rolling hills, the Elms also features 152 guest rooms, suites and conference facilities.  The resort, which recently underwent a multi-million dollar renovation to restore it to its original grandeur, has drawn visitors from near and far. Combining the charm of a historic retreat with the amenities and services of a contemporary four-star hotel, the resort now features a fitness center with an indoor European swim track, banked jogging trail, sauna and steam rooms.  Outdoor facilities also include a heated pool and whirlpool, biking and hiking trails, and a challenge course for team building and individual adventure.

The Hall of Waters was designed to be the finest health facility in the United States featuring the latest in hydrotherapy and massage.  The rich and famous, including Harry Truman, came from far and near to “take to the waters.”

Built directly over Siloam Spring, the only iron-manganese spring in the United States, the Hall of Waters complex included both a men’s and women’s spa, an indoor swimming pool, a therapeutic polio pool with a wheelchair ramp, as well as a water bar.

Today, the Hall of Waters features the “World’s Longest Water Bar,” a 100-foot, art deco structure built in the 1930s.  The water bar features bottled mineral, spring and glacier waters from around the world, as well as several on tap.

Recently restored to its former glory, the Hall of Waters Spa invites travelers to learn about the lost art of bathing.  Guests can pamper themselves with a hot, bubbling, mineral water bath or enjoy their own personal steam room. The deep, penetrating heat of a light vapor bath allows guests to relax their muscles, and mud, milk, honey, seaweed, salt, and foot baths restore and rejuvenate.  For a special treat, guests can also sample from a menu of warming and nurturing body wraps, including chocolate mousse, cocoa butter, herbal, Moor Mud, algae, aloe and oatmeal.
