Chicken Soup Cook-Off and Book Signing May 8 on the Boardwalk

The question of who makes the best chicken soup in the area will be answered on Wednesday, May 8, as area restaurants compete at the Chicken Soup Cook-Off, a landmark event organized by the Atlantic City Convention & Visitors Authority (ACCVA).  The competition will be held at 2 p.m. on the Atlantic City Boardwalk at Kennedy Plaza in conjunction with an appearance by celebrity writer Steve Zikman, co-author of Chicken Soup For the Traveler’s Soul.

The ACCVA is currently seeking restaurants that want to participate in the event.  To do so, restaurants must furnish 10 gallons of their best chicken soup, a large gallon pot to heat it in, and a sign with the restaurant name and logo.  Restaurants will also be required to provide a copy of their recipes to cook one gallon of soup.

Author Steve Zikman will be one of the celebrity judges at the event who will award first, second, and third place winners.  Klaus Muller, dean of ACCC’s Academy of Culinary Arts, also will judge the event, with a panel of VIPs. Zikman will be signing copies of his book, Chicken Soup For the Traveler’s Soul, which will be available for purchase.  Other books in the Chicken Soup series will be sold as well.

The event will be free and open to the public.  Free chicken soup samples, recipe booklets, and commemorative pins will be given out.

The ACC&VA serves as the destination management organization for Atlantic City's tourism industry.  The Authority generates economic growth for the region by aggressively marketing the destination through leisure and convention tourism development. The Authority oversees the management of the Atlantic City Convention Center and Boardwalk Hall on behalf of its parent agency, the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority.
