What's Cooking in Puerto Vallarta

Winter is here, along with a variety of new restaurants, food trends, cookbooks and culinary delights in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. From cooking classes to aphrodisiac margaritas, Puerto Vallarta remains one of the top culinary cities in the world.

Restaurants

Bianco Lounge and Restaurant is the newest venue to hit the streets of Puerto Vallarta thanks to renowned Executive Chef Roger Dreier (of Chef Roger fame, which closed in Nov. 2002, when he moved over to Bianco) has created an international menu presented in an extraordinary fashion.  Noted for its minimalist décor with an eclectic atmosphere, Bianco is one of the hottest new restaurants on the gourmet scene. Menu items include seared foie gras served with a roasted Asian pear compote and arugula, black fig salad with roasted sweet peppers and shaved fennel, and a steamed sole with Chinese noodles, fried leeks, and a three-chile tequila sauce. Located at Insurgentes 109 on the Río Cuale. For more information, call 011 52 322 222 2748. Reservations are required.

Xi Tomates, which opened in September 2002, is one of Vallarta's best places to enjoy a spin on traditional  Mexican food in a chic setting. Owner and Head Chef, Luis Fitch brings a collection of regional and international flavors to each dish. Xi Tomates is located at Morelos 570 Centro.  For more information, call when you arrive in Puerto Vallarta at 011 52 322 223 1694. No reservations are required.

Daiquiri Dick's, located on Puerto Vallarta's famed Playa los Muertos beach is a Mexican beachside eatery, and a favorite spot among locals and visitors  The food is consistently great, but the draw is from the chef himself, Rafael Nazario. There's a good chance you may get to dine with Chef Raf himself, or thumb through his cookbook, Sand in Your Shoes (available on Amazon.com.), which features recipes and the author's own contemplations such as, 'Why Making Pasta is a lot like Making Love'. This restaurant is great any time of day or night. Call 011 52 322 22 0566 for more information. Daiquiri Dick's is located at Olas Altas #314.

It's located in Puerto Vallarta's Romantic Zone the perfect place for Andreas and Cecilia's restaurant—after all, this husband and wife team have an incredible love story that they might even share with you during your visit.  Enjoy traditional items like sautéed pork loin scallops with homemade noodles in a cream mushroom sauce and indulge in a warm apple tart with homemade cinnamon ice cream and caramel sauce.  Café Maximilian is located on Olas Altas #38.  Call 01152 322 223 0760 or log onto www.kaisermaximilian.com.
