A Moby is for Me:  The Most Comfortable Baby Carrier

by Gabrielle Miller

I am a proud owner of a Moby.  When our son was born, and we lived in the city, we needed an ultra-comfortable, versatile and ergonomically-gentle baby carrier.  We borrowed our friend’s Mobywrap and were instantly hooked.  I loved the way he snuggled against me, a little tiny bean of a newborn.  We would walk my husband to work and then leisurely stroll home.  It was a brutally hot summer, the fabric was breathable and cool.  He was snug and safe, I would cradle his bottom in the carrier, sing songs and together we would start our day.  Then, in the afternoon, when the sun was not at its peak, we ventured out again, cozy in our wrap.  I was proud at my new mommy group in our fantastic purple wrap, showing one mom how to wear it, learning a new, older-baby carry from another.

In the fall, as the weather cooled off, we enjoyed lots of walks together.  Soon he could face out and would dangle safe and secure in his purple cocoon.  We bought a home in the suburbs and our walks turned into pond-skimming, as our new home has a large pond.  He loved being able to see what we did as we worked on our yard, and I loved the fact that my back didn’t hurt from carrying him around.

The glitch came when we got pregnant again and had to retire our carrier for a while.  You can use the Moby as a back carrier, but we never really had the occasion.  Mostly, I was pregnant and chasing our son around, now running around our yard.

Our daughter was born and it was wonderful to have had the know-how of snuggling her with me.  We got a Mobywrap of our own in a gorgeous chocolate brown.  Now I could stroll our son and keep our sweet girl safe and cozy just as he was.

The Moby Wrap is designed to use your entire back and your shoulders to distribute the weight of your baby and toddler.  I was able to use it comfortably until my son was over 30 pounds!  No buckles, straps or hardware, which meant no losing pieces or wardrobe malfunctions!  Also, it means easy cleaning—machine washable, which was a great big plus to us.

It is so versatile, too.  You can wear your baby in the front, on the side and on your back.  And baby-wearing worked like a charm to calm down our very fussy little boy.  I really love this baby carrier and recommend it to all of my new-mom friends.  It is a strange sight to unravel it for the first time as it’s very, very long.  But, once you get the hang of it, and you feel your baby snuggled close to your body, you will understand what all the rage is about.  They have a fantastic website with detailed instructions and video wrap demos.  The Moby comes in lots of great colors and several styles, something for everyone who wants to master the art of baby-wearing.  That’s a wrap!
