Recreational athletes can join some of the nation's top
adventure racers during the thrill-raising Beaver Creek Adventure Weekend,
July 17-18, 2004. Headlining the weekend is the BALANCE BARŪ 24-Hour
Adventure Race, followed by the first-ever Beaver Creek Adventure Sprint
Race. The Nike ACG 5k and 10k Trail Run and a series of new children's
competitions round out a weekend of adrenaline-pumping events for
competitors and spectators. A total of $30,000 in prizes will be awarded.
"Adventure racing has become very accessible," stated
Brian Metzler, Editor-in-Chief of Adventure Sports Magazine. "Not everyone
can do a week-long race in a remote corner of the world. But everyone can
experience the excitement of a three-hour race in a nearby park. All you
really need are an adventurous mindset and a modest degree of fitness."
The BALANCE BARŪ 24-Hour Adventure Race in Beaver
Creek, July 17-18, kicks-off the first annual National Adventure Racing
Week, partnering with Adventure Sports Magazine to celebrate adventure
racing, heighten awareness and grow adventure racing participation. There
are more than 500 adventure races in North America in 2004.
New this year, the Beaver Creek Adventure Sprint Race
on Sunday, July 18, is geared toward beginner adventure racers of all ages.
Outdoor enthusiasts can test their abilities over a roughly three - six hour
period, featuring 20 miles of mountain biking, trail running, orienteering

prizes. Children who are accompanied by an adult may participate. Register

17-18 in Beaver Creek Village.
