Titas Presents the Groundbreaking Dance
Company Momix
My ex-husband used to like to watch Star Trek reruns
every night. If I was going to watch anything everynight, I think it would
be modern dance. Fortunately, Titas brings some of the best in the world to
Dallas. Unfortunately, Momix is only for two nights.
TITAS Dance Season maintains its strong level of
artistry with the presentation of one of the most visually stunning dance
ensembles in the world, Momix, on Friday and Saturday, March 19 and 20 at
8:00 PM at SMU's McFarlin Auditorium. The group will perform the Dallas
debut of their new full-length work, Opus Cactus, a piece that celebrates
and mimics the flora and fauna of the American Southwestern desert.
Known internationally for presenting work of
exceptional inventiveness and physical beauty, Momix is a company of
dancer-illusionists under the direction of Moses Pendleton. For 20 years,
Momix has been celebrated for its ability to conjure up a world of
surrealistic images using props, light, shadow, humor and the human body.
"Few theater artists today can achieve the level of visual splendor and
theatrical magic that Mr. Pendleton can conjure from essentially the sparest
of means." (The Wall Street Journal) Initially inspired by a giant saguaro
cactus which he first saw several years ago when he was a choreographer for
Ballet Arizona in Phoenix, Opus Cactus presents a vivid recreation of the
colorful plant and animal life that exists in the desert. Bringing desert
landscapes to life, the dancers of Momix twist and contort themselves into
tumble weeds, cacti and Gila monsters. The creativity and spectacle of Momix
are virtually unmatched in the dance world today. For more information about
the company, visit
www.momix.com.
"Opus Cactus showed Moses Pendleton and Momix, his
troupe of dancer/athlete/gymnast artists, at their fine-toned best.
Brilliant." (New York Post)
