TITAS Presents the Dallas Debut of Les Ballets Jazz de Montreal

Sexy, funny and sharp, the dancers have personality coming from every pore.”  (The Palm Beach Post)

Edited by Madelyn Miller, the TravelLady

The 2004-2005 TITAS Dance Season continues with the Dallas debut of LES BALLETS JAZZ DE MONTREAL on March 18 & 19, 2005 at 8:00 PM at SMU’s McFarlin Auditorium. Over the past three decades, the company has solidly established itself in the international dance scene “Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal is a total joy and totally entertaining. If you ever have the chance to experience them, do!” (The Virginia Gazette)

Eclecticism has represented Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal’s principal niche since its inception in the early 1970’s. Now, energized by their charismatic Artistic Director Louis Robitaille, the company has launched itself in to a bold new era. Contemporary in feel, its repertoire combines classical technique with a variety of modern dance styles and artistic disciplines.  The company has earned a stellar reputation on the international dance scene, and continues to evolve with the vitality and openness that have always been the company's hallmark.

During their full-evening program, they will present two pieces, The Stolen Show and Mapa. The Stolen Show, by Canadian choreographer Crystal Pite is a sketchbook on movement. Intrigued by the mystifying opposition between art and entertainment, Pite has created a theatrical masterwork, sparkling with candor and wit. A posthumous tribute to composer Marco Antonio Pena Araujo, Mapa is the latest work by Rodrigo Pederneiras of the celebrated Brazilian troupe Grupo Corpo, who were part of the 2003-2004 TITAS Season. Rooted in the rigorous techniques of classical ballet, his scintillating gestural vocabulary draws upon the tribal styles of popular Brazilian dance. Both pieces are choreographic adventures that must be experienced!

Tickets ($12-$55) for Les Ballets Jazz de Montréal are available at the TITAS Box Office, 3101 North Fitzhugh, Suite 301, Dallas, TX or by phoning 214-528-5576 or faxing 214-528-0126, or online at www.titas.org.
