Prevent Memorial Day Road Trips From Becoming
Deadly
By Lisa Frymark
On behalf of Drive Revived
While many Memorial Day travel stories will highlight
the dangers of drunk driving, there is another very serious auto-related
problem that has so far hovered below the radar screen. That problem is
drowsy driving.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
estimates that more than 100,000 police-reported crashes annually are
attributed to drivers who fell asleep at the wheel. This translates to
1,500 deaths, 71,000 injuries and more than $12.5 billion in economic
impact. Without the proper awareness of and education about the seriousness
of drowsy driving, these statistics are likely to rise.
Drive Revived(tm), a consumer awareness campaign from
Baymont Inns & Suites, is designed to educate travelers on the dangers of
falling asleep at the wheel, with the goal of preventing these accidents
from happening in the first place. Some details of the program include:
-
Warning signs, risk factors and prevention tips
provided by auto/travel safety expert Courtney Caldwell;
-
Each of Baymont's more than 180 properties nationwide
provide free bottled water and coffee 24 hours a day to drivers who stop
for a break;
-
Travelers don't have to stay the night for these
services, but can take advantage of a special walk-in Drive Revived rate
if they want to catch a few hours of shut-eye (rate subject to
availability);
Tips on how to prevent drowsy driving and other program
information can be found at
www.DriveRevived.com.
With the Memorial Day holiday just around the corner, families will be
gearing up for their summer road trips. Please help us educate your
travelers about the dangers of drowsy driving. I would be happy to arrange
an interview with Courtney Caldwell. I will follow up soon to discuss your
interest. Or in the meantime, please contact me at (414) 270-7262 or

Thank you for your consideration.
