Toronto Kicks off Fall by Hosting Premiere Tour of

The Secret Life of Sets: Set Decorators at Work

Toronto will be the first city to host the touring exhibit of The Secret Life of Sets: Set Decorators at Work on display at the CN Tower from September 8, 2004 to January 2, 2005. The exhibition is presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in cooperation with Tourism Toronto, Ontario Tourism Marketing Partnership Corporation (OTMPC) and the CN Tower, with the generous support of Architectural Digest.

Organized by and originally housed at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences headquarters in Beverly Hills, The Secret Life of Sets: Set Decorators at Work is a unique exhibition celebrating the art of contemporary set decoration. Toronto was singled out to be the first city to host the touring display. This will be the exhibit’s only Canadian appearance before it travels to Chicago and New York in 2005.

“This incredible exhibit is a perfect complement to the Toronto International Film Festival and sets the mood for fall culture in the city,” says Bruce MacMillan, president and CEO of Tourism Toronto. “This unique combination of events, as well as other Toronto-based attractions, gives tourists even more reason to visit Toronto.”

Toronto is home to a variety of fall events geared to arts and culture, including the prominent Toronto International Film Festival. The Festival, viewed as North America’s best by both the film industry and public, draws an international crowd of film aficionados by featuring a multitude of premiere film screenings, symposiums and star-spotting opportunities.

The Secret Life of Sets: Set Decorators at Work exhibit contains the sets and items created for The Cat in the Hat, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, Down with Love, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, The Haunted Mansion, Spider-Man 2 and Van Helsing. Behind-the-scenes displays feature film clips, artwork and , as well as interview footage with the set decorators themselves.

“The Ontario government continues to strengthen tourism by supporting unique and innovative attractions such as the Secret Life of Sets: Set Decorators at Work," says Minister of Tourism and Recreation Jim Bradley. "This renowned exhibit is a must-see for fans of the silver screen, and together with the film festival, will make Toronto a must-see destination this fall."

"Visitors to Canada's National Tower will be thrilled to also have an opportunity to visit the actual sets from some of their favourite recent movie releases. The Secret Life of Sets: Set Decorators at Work will add a fascinating new dimension for visitors to Canada's architectural wonder of the world." says Jack Robinson, CN Tower General Manager.

The Secret Life of Sets: Set Decorators at Work is included with a CN Tower admission or with a meal at 360 Restaurant. The exhibit will be open from 10am-10pm daily, running September 8, 2004 until January 2, 2005.
