A Good Dose of Well-Being
"Inward Bound" at Montego Bay's Round Hill
Recognizing the need to offset the rigors of todays hectic pace, the Round Hill Hotel & Villas in Montego Bay, Jamaica, is offering Inward Bound, a program that helps people slow down and get reacquainted with themselves.
The program, which incorporates yoga, body and mind fitness and meditation, takes place over seven days at the end of which a participant has gained a new sense of aliveness and inner peace. This year, Inward Bound is presented at Round Hill from June 27 until July 4 and from December 4 until December 11. In the year 2000, it will be offered three times, with the first week from January 30 until February 6.
Inward Bound is the brainchild of Jane Fryer, a master teacher of yoga who works with the bodys natural energy systems to create a holistic approach to rejuvenation. In 1996, she was joined by Jennifer Harvey, whose classes in body/mind aerobics and meditation added the perfect compliment to create this unique approach to the restoration of the body and spirit.
Each day begins with meditation at 7:00 am where the methods and benefits of meditation are taught and experienced in a simple, yet profound manner. Next is the Hatha Yoga Class, lasting from 7:30 until 9:00 am where special attention is given to proper alignment and enhanced breathing, helping develop strength and flexibility.
After the breakfast break, at 10:30 am, the group is ready for the fabulous aerobic workout known as NIA (neuromuscular integrative action). NIA combines yoga, dance, tai chi, and other martial arts in an exhilarating and inspiring integration of body, mind and spirit.
An important part of Inward Bound is to experience the natural surroundings of Round Hill as the splendors of nature enable participants to truly get in touch with themselves. The time set aside to do this is from 11:30 am until 4:30 pm. This includes lunch and time for massages, facials, excursions, or time just to further develop a good sense of well-being.
At 4:30 pm, the group re-convenes for an hour of a Pilates based exercise class, emphasizing core/abdominal conditioning through a series of exercises designed to strengthen, tone and lengthen muscles, while improving flexibility, alignment, and body mechanics. From 5:30 until 6:30 pm, a restorative yoga class completes the daily program. Effortless and extraordinarily relaxing, this yoga has major benefits for all psychophysical systems.
Each Inward Bound program at Round Hill is limited to 20 people and all classes are optional. It is suitable for all levels of fitness, including beginners. Both men and women are welcome.
Prices are per person for seven nights/eight days, double occupancy, and include accommodation, breakfast and dinner, the Inward Bound program, tax and services. A superior oceanfront hotel room is $2,425; deluxe oceanfront hotel room is $2,695 and a deluxe villa suite with pool is $3,150. There is a single supplement of $500.
