BANGKOK TO HOST SECOND INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF DANCE AND MUSIC
World-famous dancers and musicians from Russia, France, Japan, Germany and Spain will join their Thai counterparts for the Second International Festival of Dance and Music to be held in Bangkok at the Thailand Cultural Centre during September 14 October 20, 2000.
The biggest of its kind ever held in Thailand, the second festival will feature a total of ten exhilarating and breath-taking performances including operas, ballets, orchestra, dances, plays, rock, tradition and jazz concerts. TAT Governor Pradech Phayakvichien commented, �Promotion of cultural events is very much in line with TAT�s policy and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration�s campaign, �Bangkok 2000: City of Culture�, which will help extend the city�s reputation and create a wider range of tourism activities in the city. We are optimistic that Bangkok�s Second International Festival of Dance and Music will open up opportunities for dance and music lovers from around the world who happen to be in Bangkok in the months of September and October. Expatriates in Thailand, as well as Thai nationals, will enjoy this specially designed event,� Mr Pradech added. The festival program is as follows: Thursday 14 and Friday 15 Sep. September 19 LES YEUX NOIRS Music between rock and tradition, featuring eight musicians from France. Presented by the Ambassade de France en Thailande
September 21-22 SLEEPING BEAUTY Novosibirsk Theatre of Opera and Ballet from Russia featuring 150 ballet artists and musicians
September 23 LEGEND OF LOVE� Production by Yuri Grigorovich of the Moscow Bolshoi Theatre featuring 150 ballet artists and musicians of the Novosibirsk Theatre of Opera and Ballet
September 24 STATE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA Featuring 80 musicians from the Novosibirsk Conductor Vladimir Rylov of the Moscow Bolshoi Theatre
September 29-30 3-act musical play in DAO LAN DUANG Styled by Vorayuth Milintajinda. Singers Maneenuch Smerasut and Nadda Viyakarn from Thailand
October 6 PONTABOX Jazz group from Japan. Presented by the Japan Foundation.
October 19 AKADEMIE FUR ALTE MUSIK Chamber Orchestra from Berlin, Germany. Presented by the Goethe-Institut Bangkok
October 20 COMPANIA MANUEL SEGOVIA Spanish dancers and singers including the Flamenco from Spain. Presented by the Embassy of Spain
