BREAKING THE GLASS CEILING

ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT TOOLS USED BY MEN IN BUSINESS IS NOW AVAILABLE TO WOMEN

by Madelyn Miller

Golf has long been used by men as an important tool in developing business relationships and in today’s business environment, almost as many deals are sealed on the golf course as they are in the boardroom.

As a result, more women have taken up the game for the advantages and opportunities it provides in the business world -- using golf to smash the "glass ceiling."

According to the National Golf Foundation, nearly a quarter of all golfers in the US are women, and 62 percent hold professional or management positions.  Yet even with these amazing statistics, many women still feel intimidated by this male dominated sport.  Mindful of this growing trend, Pebble Beach Golf Academy is offering special instructional schools designed exclusively for corporate women who want to overcome fears of intimidation by learning essential golf strategies and improving technique.

Located at Spyglass Hill, the Pebble Beach Golf Academy offers unique programs that give women the experience of learning from the nation’s top PGA and LPGA certified teaching professionals, playing on the fabled Pebble Beach Golf Courses (a fact that will impress even the most seasoned players) and "how to" use golf in business.

Under the direction of Academy director Laird Small, currently nominated for the 1998 PGA Teacher of the Year Award, students learn the fundamental strategies and techniques of golf in a non-competitive atmosphere and benefit from a complete golf curriculum and the Academy's relaxed, yet thorough approach to instruction.
