AN EYE ON CUCUMBERS

Natural Beauty Recipes from Spa Grande

Are you experiencing puffy eyes from stress or dry skin from the harsh winter? David Erlich, spa director of Spa Grande at the Grand Wailea Resort Hotel & Spa, shares some easy tips for those at home in need of spa therapy. Common items found at home or at the store can make a world of difference. Spa Grande recommends cucumbers, which are easily available at the local supermarket.

A long-standing favorite, cucumbers’ qualities are far more than a wives’ tale. The vegetable has a very high water, silicon, and sodium content which helps soothe and cool eyes. Cucumbers aid in toning and firming the skin while reducing effects of lifestyle stress. The sodium content helps draw excess water from the tissue surrounding the eyes, reducing puffiness.

Use cucumber to relieve:

Puffiness
Sore eyes
Eye fatigue
Hay fever symptoms
Eye strain from jet lag, computer use, reading and sun exposure

Directions:

Cut slices of cucumbers and place on bed of ice.  Relax with eyes closed and place a cucumber slice on each eye. Rest for ten minutes with the cucumbers in place.

(Avoid using if you have allergies or sensitivities to cucumbers.)
