Doing Business with the Road Cadet Club

More than 32 million business trips in 1998 included children--a number that is expected to continue to grow!  To help these busy, on-the-go parents and children make the most of their road-time together, New York City’s Fitzpatrick Grand Central Hotel and the Fitzpatrick Manhattan Hotel have created the Road Cadet Club.

When a road warrior traveling with a child twelve years of age or under, dubbed a Road Cadet by the hotels, presents a business card upon check-in, the pair receive a complimentary in-room VCR/video (based on availability) and popcorn for one night.  They also get a Big Apple IQ test which they can do together, and each child receives a Road Cadet certificate which enrolls the child in the hotel’s Road Cadet Club.

Members of the club are awarded one hotel point per stay. When ten points are gathered within one year, the cadet and parent can trade the points in for one free night.  Any child sharing a room with a parent stays free; the hotels will also arrange for a babysitter for an additional cost.

Fitzpatrick Grand Central Hotel’s 155 rooms feature a private fax machine, 2-line telephones with voice mail and dataports for computers.  Most rooms include canopy beds draped in rich damask and jacquard.  A centerpiece of the luxury hotel is the Wheeltapper, a quaint, old-world Irish railroad-themed pub serving "pub grub," and a children menu called "The Wee Folk."

There is nightly turndown service, 24-hour room service and complimentary health club facilities nearby.  Complimentary copies of The Wall Street Journal are distributed weekdays to guestrooms.

The 92-room Fitzpatrick Manhattan Hotel includes 52 suites, all with separate living rooms with sofa beds for the children and three telephones.  All of the guestrooms and suites have two-line phones, fax machines, dataports, bathrobes and two phones.  There is also 24-hour room service and complimentary health club facilities with an indoor/outdoor pool and sun deck two blocks away.

All guestrooms at both properties offer distinctly Irish in-room amenities including plush Irish bathrobes, sterling white Irish cotton towels, complimentary Tipperary Spring Water and Barry’s Irish Tea, which accompanies the coffee maker.
