DOUBLE YOUR
PLEASURE
A CARRY-ON
BACKPACK THAT REALLY DOES DOUBLE DUTY
by Madelyn Miller
In my never-ending search for ways to save space when
packing, I have tried lots of multi-use products for travel. It always seems
like a good idea to have something that does two things and only takes up the
space of a little more than one.
Usually, I am disappointed. The products often compromise on
efficiency and don't really do more than one job well.
But recently I tried something that not only did two things
well but also was a bonus conversation starter. Travelon's Wheeled Day-Pack
worked so well, that people stopped me in airports and asked me about it. Once
while waiting for a delayed flight, it became the center of attention, as
everyone wanted to try adjusting it and using it both ways.
Travelon makes an Expedition line and if all the other parts
are as well thought out as the Wheeled Day-Pack, this luggage is a "must
try." The pieces are ergonomically engineered and are really comfortable
to use. The injection molded, texturized rubber handles are comfortable to
carry. And the in-line skate wheels make it especially stable when rushing
through airports.
Mostly, I am a carry on person, not a backpacker. But I did
take the Wheeled Day-Pack with me to an outlet mall and found it really helpful
when I made acquisitions. There are lots of hooks and loops and accessories
that I didn't really use effectively
and having such a convenient case was no
help in repelling bargains since they were easy to carry. But rugged outdoors
people who saw it, commented on well designed it was. The two features most
people seemed to appreciate were the extra back padding and compression straps
to keep cargo in place and help distribute the weight of the contents across
your body.
The Travelon Wheeled Day-Pack is constructed from
Hi-Density, Rip-Stop Pac-Cloth treated with Teflon TM to protect against water
and stains. The fabric is polyurethane coated and is waterproof. The model I
liked was style #3216.
But the ultimate compliment to the Day-Pack is that my
consumer advocate brother, who makes Ralph Nader look like a pushover, thought
this was a really neat product. He liked it so well, in fact, that he was
willing to roll and carry it all over for me.
The Travelon Day-Pack comes with just about everything you
need, except my brother.
