Ericsson State-Of-The-Art Phone

One phone does it all for Business Travelers

I 888 World roams over 50 countries with a single number; accesses the Internet with built-in PC card and infrared port

International travelers can now use a single mobile phone for voice calls and data connections almost anywhere they travel.  The I 888 World phone from Ericsson is a dual-band wireless phone that operates on 1900 MHz GSM (Global System for Mobile) communications networks in North and South America and 900 MHz GSM networks throughout much of the world, including countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.  Presently, the I 888 works in more than 50 countries and 3,500 cities in North America on Omnipoint GSM service, though the unit has the potential to operate in the 120 countries with GSM networks.

Speech, Fax and Data without Boundaries

The I 888 delivers data-on-demand via a built-in infrared modem that connects to most laptop computers, palmtops or PDAs.  By using a single number anywhere in the world, the I 888 can reduce the cost of placing calls, sending and receiving e-mails and surfing the Web while roaming overseas and be an affordable alternative to hotel and calling card charges for the same call.  Yet, the I 888 offers the convenience of advanced digital wireless communications at home as well as abroad.

With the I 888, international travelers don't need to buy, borrow or rent another phone because of incompatible network frequencies. The I 888 automatically scans for the nearest GSM 900 or 1900 network on initial power-up.  Its infrared port eliminates the need for extra cables.  The phone comes with a travel charger and five different plugs compatible with most voltage requirements and socket styles around the world.

Phone Book Management and Short Message Service

The I 888 is sold with Ericsson's Mobile Office Suite software for Phone Book Management and Short Message Service (SMS). The SMS application lets users send text messages to one or several recipients, send text to a fax and as e-mail, and edit, cut and paste between other applications.  The software makes it possible to edit a phone book and create new ones in the I 888's 99-number memory.  The I 888 synchronizes with a computer, palmtop or other compatible device running on Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows CE to update phone book entries.  For computers without an infrared port, connectivity is possible via a data cable accessory.

Small, Sleek and Light

Small enough to fit in a pocket, the I 888 weighs only 6.3 oz. (179g), measures 5.2x1.9” and an inch thick (132x48x26mm) and comes in slate blue.  It has a hardtop keypad, a dual-band stub antenna and a sturdy magnesium frame.

Among the I 888's other features are an active flip to answer and end calls conveniently, a three-line display with date, clock and alarm, 24-language menu, 15 ring types, side ringer and volume controls, and up to 6.7 hours of talk/120 hours of standby time.*
