THE ANAHEIM CONVENTION CENTER
BREAKS THE GLASS CEILING
According to
convention industry leaders in the Professional Convention Managers Association,
women meeting planners outnumber men generally two-to-one. In today’s business
world, women fill most manager and director positions having the responsibility
of meeting planning. This is why the Anaheim Convention Center has broken
through the "glass ceiling." The Center hopes to beckon meeting
planners and attendees with the soaring 180-foot new glass tower.
According to
Greg Smith, general manager of the Anaheim Convention Center, "In the
corporate world the glass ceiling represents an invisible barrier that keeps
women from progressing in their careers. However, our glass ceiling is just the
opposite, it conjures an image of the sky’s the limit. We think that this is
one glass ceiling that everyone will welcome." The vast
215,000-square-foot lobby features 235,000 square feet of glass that sets the
stage for this spacious building. Charles Ahlers, president of the
Anaheim/Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau noted, "The
architects have created a highly user-friendly and artistic building. In
addition to providing stunning meeting and exhibit space, it brings our
Southern California sunshine inside, providing an open and casual feeling
throughout this state-of-the-art venue."
The Anaheim
Convention Center’s massive expansion and redesign project just recently
completed the second phase, giving the building one-million square feet of
meeting and exhibit space. The building features a brand new look, lobby,
ballroom, meeting rooms and a spectacular view. The glass tower represents the
signature look for the new building’s architecture. In total, $13 million
dollars worth of glass will create this dramatic front entrance. The final
completion of the 1.6 million-square-foot Anaheim Convention center project is
set for December of 2000.
