STAR WEARS

USED CELEBRITY CLOTHING STORES IN LA

by Madelyn  Miller

Ever wished for the great dress a star wore in movie? Wondered if your life would be magical if you just had that dress? Imagine if you could buy it at an affordable price.

This is no fairy tale.

Try Hollywood on for size and then take it home--literally.  Now you can peruse at your leisure in several stores throughout the LA area that specialize in used celebrity clothing.  Everything from shoes to evening wear of popular television shows, movies, soap operas and even specials can be found at the following shops, sometimes at bargain prices.  Besides clothing, some stores also sell the personal items of both old and new celebrities from Marlene Dietrich’s china to Elizabeth Taylor’s scarves.

Baby Jane of Hollywood, 7985 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood, 323/848-7080.  All types of movie memorabilia are found at Baby Jane of Hollywood, including autographs, posters and clothing.  They also specialize in offbeat celebrity photos.

Butterfield & Butterfield, 7601 Sunset Blvd., Los Angeles, 323/850-7500.  One of the largest auction houses in Los Angeles also handles prized movie memorabilia to be auctioned off to the highest bidder.  For example, Butterfield & Butterfield auctioned Harrison Ford’s signature jacket and hat from the hit movie “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”

Cinema Glamour Shop, 343 N. La Brea Ave., Los Angeles, 323/933-5289.  This shop sells a large assortment of contemporary clothing donated by celebrities, with all proceeds benefiting the Motion Picture & Television Fund.  In addition, the store sometimes receives clothing straight from designers and shops that have gone out of business.

It’s A Wrap, 3315 W. Magnolia Blvd., Burbank, 818/567-7366.  Much of the clothing here comes straight from the studio wardrobe departments of popular television shows such as Melrose Place and daytime soap operas including General Hospital.  And most of the clothes boast top designer labels such as Donna Karan, Nicole Miller and Calvin Klein marked down as low as 95 percent off the retail price.  The two-story shop also features television memorabilia and props plus an array of accessories from earrings to shoes.

Reel Clothes/Studio Wardrobe, 12132 Ventura Blvd., Studio City, 818/508-7762.  Everything you could ever imagine from a movie production can be found on the racks and shelves of the Reel Clothes Studio Wardrobe.  From dishes to T-shirts, every item is labeled with information on the show of origin. Recent finds include Sylvester Stallone’s outfit from Daylight and Matthew McConaughey’s glasses from A Time To Kill.  On-line shoppers can check out their website at http://www.reel-clothes.com

Time After Time, 7245 Melrose Ave., Los Angeles, 323/653-8463.  For those who love memorabilia from the golden days of old Hollywood, this boutique shop is the place to go.  It carries a small collection of celebrity clothing from the 1930s to 1950s, including the wares of Marlon Brando, Ginger Rogers, Shirley Mclaine, Natalie Wood and Leslie Howard.
