VIRTUAL TRAVEL POSTCARDS
Faster, Cheaper, Easier

by Madelyn Miller

Before I was a full-time travel writer, I always prided myself on taking the time to find the perfect postcard and mailing it from my destination while I was away.

People appreciated the effort. But I often got home before the postcard. And sometimes on a short international trip, it was a pain to figure out the postage and buy stamps. (Postcards are never a problem) And it took some time to write them

Now I have a better way of keeping in touch. I travel with a laptop computer and email everyone who might be interested about my experiences along the way. They get a sense of immediacy and involvement and I take the time to write more than "having a wonderful time, wish you were here." People with a digital camera can even send photos along the way.

But for traditionalists, there is a compromise. Send a virtual postcard greeting by email.

It's quick and easy and free.

There are two different kinds of virtual postcards. Some send the actual graphic to your addressee. Others send them to a link where they click on the postcard.

Another benefit of using virtual postcards. You do not even have to bring your addressbook. All your email contacts are probably stored on your computer.

Not everyone has email you say? Who has friends like that?

If you enjoyed reading this story, please send me an email postcard.
