Wild About
Wildflowers
Wildflower activities are in full bloom at Lake Austin Spa
Resort this spring. Lake Austin Spa Resort is home to more than 300 species of
native flora. To celebrate nature's annual color wheel, this destination spa
offers special programming during March, April and May.
Guests can enjoy guided VIP tours of the Lady Bird Johnson
Wildflower Research Center, a place dedicated to the preservation and the
education of the economic and environmental value of native plants.
Wildflower boat cruises are also available including a
scenic hike as well as a healthy, gourmet picnic lunch. The perfect outing for
those who enjoy the outdoors.
Lake Austin Spa Resort's Horticulturist and Grounds Manager
Trisha Shirey is happy to share her knowledge with guests. "Beginning in
March, the grounds are alive with the bright gold of coreopsis, the lavender of
lemon horsemint and the white of lazy daisies, which don't open until later in
the day. We actually have wildflowers blooming here through July," Shirey
says. Trisha shares her expertise during the several classes that are offered such
as the Butterfly and Formal Gardens Tour, Flower Arranging, Gardening Tips,
Pressed Flowers and Organic Butterfly Gardening. Guests will come away with ideas
to use in their own homes.
In addition to the wildflower programming, kayaking,
sculling and canoeing along the beautiful shores of Lake Austin are also
available. Classes like yoga, NIA, Salsa dancing, painting with watercolors,
journaling and cooking demonstrations are regularly scheduled throughout the
week, and guests are encouraged to work at their own pace. So whether it's
laying in a hammock with a good book amongst the bluebonnets or hiking in a sea
of gold coreopsis, Lake Austin Spa Resort provides outdoor activities for this
spring season.
Lake Austin Spa Resort is rated a top 10 destination spa by
the Zagat Survey of U.S Hotels, Resorts and Spas. Travel and Leisure Magazine voted it one of the Top 50 Best Kept
Secrets in the World. Lake Austin Spa Resort offers day packages as well as
all-inclusive three, four and seven-night getaways, group packages and gift
certificates. Overnight visits include accommodations, meals, spa services,
unlimited fitness classes and life enhancement programs. Reservations and
