WINE SENSORY GARDEN BLOSSOMS AT SEAPORT HOTELThis East Coast wine sensory garden at the Seaport Hotel, is a much smaller version of the Kendall Jackson Wine Sensory Gardens. It is located on the 2.5-acre organic wine garden at the Kendall-Jackson Wine Center in Fulton, California, in the heart of wine country. Not only will it be a beautiful garden, blooming in the midst of the Seaport District; it will supply herbs, fruits, and vegetables for the Seaport's restaurant, Aura. Aura Chef Ed Doyle has won acclaim for his culinary talent and use of fresh, locally grown ingredients in his menus. Chef Doyle planted an organic herb garden at the Seaport last season, and was inspired by a visit last year to the Kendall-Jackson Wine Center. He went during the wine harvest to expand his herb garden and transplant a portion of the organic culinary wine garden grown in California, here in Boston. Last year, the garden produced herbs such as tarragon, basil, chamomile, peppermint, spearmint, chives, fruit sage, silver thyme and lemon thyme, just to name a few. The enhanced garden will feature items such as lavender, strawberries, gooseberries, tarragon, honeysuckle, dill, raspberries and roses. The Seaport Wine Sensory Garden, like the Kendall-Jackson Wine Sensory Gardens, will be divided into a red and white wine sensory and tasting garden. The red and white wine sensory gardens are planted to fruits; vegetables and herbs that represent the flavors often found in various red and white variety wines. By tasting and smelling the plants, flowers, fruits and vegetables you can begin to recognize the aromas and flavors found in the wines. Numerous special activities, including a Seaport version of Kendall-Jackson's popular annual Tomato Festival in September, wine education and pairing seminars, wine tasting, garden receptions and fundraising events, will take place in the garden throughout the spring, summer and fall. Eventually, the garden plans to evolve into a year-round wine garden with related activities such as Boston Wine Expo seminars, and "how to plant a garden" seminars for guests of the hotel in the winter months.
