Swansation
By Martha Hollis and Anthony Scaggs
What's the flap about those five feet tall fiberglass
swans around the lake and public areas of Lakeland, FL? Birdwatchers can see
them only until April when they will be auctioned in a benefit for the
Explorations V Children’s Museum and other charities.
Swansation, modeled after much talked about Cows on
Parade in Chicago, has enriched Lakeland with a visual cultural activity.
Sixty-two individuals, businesses, and organizations have "Swansored" the
swans.
The Swan Song Dinner Auction will take place April 25,
2003. It is anticipated that many of the swans will then make permanent
nests in the area.
