The Best View in Manhattan

The hotel that overlooks all my favorite things

By Madelyn Miller

If you asked most people what they think is the very best view of Manhattan, they would probably say The Empire State Building, or the State of Liberty, or once upon a time, the World Trade Center.

My vision of New York is about retail.

I love Bloomingdale’s, Saks and Soho. But most of all, I love the street and flea markets. So when I checked into the Hampton Inn Manhattan/Chelsea, and was given a choice of views, I selected the view of the Chelsea Flea Market.

Shoppers will understand. Peering out at the rows of vendors offering jewelry, vintage clothing, antiques and junque is like having a front row seat at the theatre. Or a private docent tour of a museum.

Actually, this hotel could be the best shopping location in the city. Their brochure says:

The newly constructed Hampton Inn Manhattan/Chelsea is located in Midtown Manhattan’s vibrant Chelsea neighborhood, on 24th Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenue.  Surrounded by the city’s premier cultural, retail and tourist attractions, the hotel is minutes away from Midtown Manhattan and the Financial District. But they could really appeal to the shopaholic market.

EVERYONE LOVES A DEAL

The prices for this hotel are surprisingly reasonable. Rooms are about $160 to $220 a night. And when you add in a free breakfast, unlimited fresh cookies and free high speed internet access, it is a deal that is hard to beat.  I stayed there during a snow storm, and every time I returned to the hotel, the front desk man asked me if I wanted some hot chocolate. Better, friendlier service and greeting that I received at a ritzy addressed hotel on the same trip.

Housed in a newly constructed twenty-story high-rise boasting signature architectural style, contemporary décor and hi-tech amenities, the hotel combines the quality features of the nationally recognized Hampton Inn brand with the design elements of a classic New York-style hotel.  The 20-story, 144-room Hampton Inn is approximately 51,104 square feet and feature gracious outdoor spaces, state-of-the-art guest room furnishings and refined common areas.

A FEW MORE WONDERFUL THINGS ABOUT THE LOCATION

NEARBY ATTRACTIONS: The Hampton Inn Manhattan/Chelsea is located near many of New York City’s premier theatres, art galleries, museums and shopping areas including the Flatiron District, Gramercy Park, Greenwich Village, and Union Square.  The hotel is just minutes away from Jacob Javitz Convention Center, Macy’s, Madison Square Garden, and the Theatre District.  The hotel is three blocks from the global headquarters of Credit Suisse First Boston and convenient to Citi Group and other financial institutions in lower Manhattan.  In addition, the hotel is just a block away from subway lines allowing quick and easy access to Central Park, Battery Park, Statue of Liberty, and Ellis Island Ferries

MORE GOOD STUFF ABOUT HAMPTON INNS

THE BRAND  The Hampton â brand, which includes Hampton InnÒ and Hampton Inn & Suites® hotels, is a leading mid-priced hotel brand trusted for a good night’s rest by value-conscious, quality-minded travelers.  All Hampton Inn hotels offer warm surroundings, friendly service, high-quality accommodations, and convenient, time-saving extras at competitive rates.  Currently, there are more than 1,200 Hampton hotels located in 49 states.  Additionally, Hampton has international locations in Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, totaling more than 125,000 guestrooms in the brand’s system.

SPECIAL  Hampton is also a Three-time winner of the J.D. Power and Associates award for “Highest Guest Satisfaction Among Mid-Price Hotel Chains with Limited Food Service.” (1999-2001) In February 2003, Hampton was listed as the top “Mid-Price Hotel Chain without Food or Beverage” by the annual Business Travel News survey.  Franchise Times ranked Hampton as a top franchise company for its 2002 top 200-franchise company’s list.  The American Buses Association (ABA) also recognizes Hampton as the “Best Hotel Chain for Groups.”

SATISFACTION   Hampton Inn was the first national hotel brand to offer its guests an

GUARANTEE unconditional 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.  If guests are not completely satisfied with their stay at any Hampton hotel, their night’s stay is free.  The guarantee was introduced in October 1989.

LODGING  Introduced in 1984, Hampton Inn was based on the concept of

CONCEPTS  providing guests with consistent, value-priced accommodations and a bundled package of amenities included in the price of the hotel room.  For example, Hampton Inn was the first mid-priced national hotel brand to offer guests a complimentary continental breakfast and complimentary local telephone calls as part of every guest stay.  In 1995, the Hampton brand once again introduced another lodging option to meet the change in nature of consumers’ travel lifestyles by launching Hampton Inn & Suites hotels.  The unique lodging concept, which combines a significant block of traditional guest rooms with spacious two-room suites featuring separate bedroom, living room, and kitchen areas, designed to accommodate the lodging needs of a guest’s particular travel occasion, with suites for longer stays or family trips, and standard hotel rooms for brief stays or solo travel.

Hampton Inn hotels generally are located in high-visibility, high-traffic areas, usually near full-service restaurants and major interstates in rural and suburban markets, and feature between 70 and 315 guest rooms with a lobby/breakfast area.
