When Two Worlds Collide
By Roger Moore
Friday evening two worlds came together at the Janette
Kennedy Gallery, inside historic South Side on Lamar, in Dallas, TX.
at the opening of The Art and Heart of a Motorcycle show.
The art community was present to enjoy the beauty of the
phenomenon known as the modern day Chopper, and the motorcycle community had an
opportunity to see some of the premier examples of the art of bike building in a
setting that isn’t normally reserved for motorcycles, the beautiful Janette
Kennedy Gallery.
There were motorcycles, sculptures, pictures and paintings
of motorcycles and the motorcycle lifestyle.
The reception Friday evening was attended by young and old,
biker and socialite. The bike builders were present to answer questions, and
the press shot pictures and interviewed. This was one of the best attended
receptions in the history of the Gallery.
But the stars of the show were the motorcycles. The
Original American Iron Horse was there, represented by Tim Edmondson of
Edmondson Custom Builders, as well as Tattoo, Marilyn and Drag
Specialties from Rick Fairless of Strokers Dallas. Jeff Boudreaux and the
gang from Die Hard Customs in Nederland, TX made the trip with three of their
creations from the mind and hands of Waylon Keeton, their designer. Voodoo,
the masterful creation of Mike Dusold, Dusold Designs in Lewisville, TX, made it
easy to see why it was the first Texas bike to win at Rat’s Hole in Daytona, CC
Trikes and Custom Bikes brought this years Rat’s Hole Trike winner for all to
enjoy, as well as two of their signature bikes, Sling Blade and The
Aluminator. This is but a partial list of the 22 motorcycles present in the
Gallery.
Saturday brought rain, rain and more rain as participants
prepared for the Ride In Bike Show. There were 37 entries in spite of
the weather, and they were all winners, even though there could only be 1 winner
per class. In the Gallery the people spoke and the People’s Choice award went
to Natural Born Killer by Hard Core Kustoms of Grand Prairie.
Jason Farley and his crew did an outstanding job getting this bike finished as
the only bike built especially to debut at this show.
Saturday night there were awards to be given, music to
listen to, and fun to be had as the show moved to Poor David’s Pub. The
winners were named, and the people were entertained by the great Rock and Roll
Band SOULVILLE from Ft Worth, and Dallas’ premier Blues based Party Band
The BOOGIEMEN!
It was a weekend to remember, and plans are already in the
works for next year’s show. Rumor has it that the Gallery exhibit is being
slated for a 10 day run. Let’s see what happens next year when the Two Worlds
Collide.
