Asian Film Festival of Dallas Announces 2005 Festival Season

May, August events highlight another standout year of Asian film

As local theatre audiences whet their appetites for Asian and International film with the Dallas premieres of festival hits Nobody Knows, OldBoy, Kung Fu Hustle and 2046, the Asian Film Festival of Dallas is proud to announce their upcoming Festival Season of events:

AFFD SHORT FILM FESTIVAL:  May 28-29, 2005 at the Dallas Museum of Art.  Films will be showing from 11:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. each day.  Over 30 short films will be shown, with winning entries to be featured during the centerpiece festival event in August.

4TH ANNUAL ASIAN FILM FESTIVAL OF DALLAS:  August 18-26, 2005 at the Magnolia Theatre and the Dallas Museum of Art.  The festival lasts nine days and offers dozens of feature films, ranging from Hong Kong action films to independent releases from countries including China, Japan, Thailand, South Korea, India, Mongolia, Philippines, Germany, Canada, U.K., and the U.S.

"There's just been this explosion of interest in specifically Asian film over the last year, and that's really exciting," said Chiho Mori, AFFD Festival Director.  "But even in the midst of all that excitement, it's such a challenging time for film festivals, especially in the Southwest," Mori said.

"We've been really fortunate," Mori said.  "We have these fantastic relationships with the Museum and the Magnolia, and we've been able to find some really great companies who have helped us pull the money together to bring these amazing films to Dallas. It's getting harder every year, though," Mori said.

"We know the demand is there; that's why we're lasting longer and offering more every year," Mori said. "Like the other festivals out there, we're just looking for some angels."

Any questions regarding festival events, participation or sponsorship should be directed to mailbag@affd.org.

The Asian Film Festival of Dallas is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization devoted to promoting an understanding of Asian culture, and to supporting and advancing the work of Asian-American artists. For more information, visit www.affd.org or call 214.938.1042.
