First Ever Bloomin’ Barbeque & Bluegrass

By Becky J. Beall
Looking for a family oriented way to welcome springtime?
Sevierville, Tennessee has just the celebration for you! May 20–21, 2005 are
dates to mark on your family calendar, which will commemorate the first ever
Bloomin’ Barbeque & Bluegrass (BB&B) celebration in the Smoky Mountain city of
Sevierville. An event coordinated by the Sevierville Chamber of Commerce, the
celebration promises good food, entertainment, and all out fun for the whole
family!
Historic
downtown Sevierville will transform into a sea of enjoyment with toe-tapping
bluegrass music, arts and crafts (infamous in the Smokies), games for the
children and a Dolly Parton vocal competition. Contestants don’t have to
sound like Dolly but do have to sing one of her songs. And did I mention there’s
a Championship Barbeque Cook-off?
Friday night, May 20, BB&B opens at 6pm with barbeque
vendors prepared to serve their mouth-watering, saucy dishes certain to make
your palate sizzle…from barbeque sandwiches to full racks of ribs, there is
something for every taste bud. Visit with the chefs, some who might have
familiar faces (if you watch the Food Network), check out the arts and crafts,
and take advantage of the free bluegrass concerts performed by some of today’s
rising stars, such as Valerie Smith & Liberty Pike, Jimbo Whaley & Greenbrier,
and Marty Raybon.
You’ll want to come back on Saturday morning as the day
starts early (10am) with local dance troupes featuring cloggers! The “Kids’
Zone” offers face-painting, moonwalks and foods made famous in old-time country
fairs. The lineup of bluegrass entertainment continues with performances by
Michelle Porter & Southern Express and Trey Hensley & Driven Force. The barbeque
competition gets tense as the winners are selected and announced at 4pm. The
event is open until 5pm.
If you would like more information on this springtime
event, please call 1-888-SEVIERVILLE (738-4378) or visit

miss!
