WOODSTOCK INN & RESORT BREAKS GROUND WITH A BED AND FLOWER WEEKEND IN JULY
Gardening
enthusiasts have a glorious opportunity this summer to cultivate green thumbs at
the first annual Bed and Flower Weekend at the Woodstock Inn & Resort, scheduled
for July 14 to 16, 2006.
Hosted by two well-loved and entertaining celebrities of
the garden lecture circuit – Michael Weishan and Lucinda Rooney – the weekend
will focus on flower and landscape talks, beautiful garden walks, and the
delightful hospitality of the Woodstock Inn & Resort, which anchors the town
green in one of New England’s most charming villages.
In
addition to being host of the long-running “The Victory Garden” on PBS, Michael
Weishan is the gardening editor for New Old House Magazine and author of three
books including The Victory Garden Companion a new, indispensable guide inviting
gardeners of all levels to dig in. Hot off the press in April 2006, autographed
copies of the book will be on sale during the weekend event. Michael’s lectures,
delivered with his signature sense of humor and horticultural expertise will
cover: The Seven Deadly Sins of Modern American Landscape – and How to Avoid
Them and Rethinking the American Backyard.
Vermont-based
Lucinda Rooney, who specializes in fresh flower arranging and European-inspired
garden design, lectures professionally at prestigious horticultural venues
including the New York Botanical Garden, Longwood Gardens, and the Philadelphia
Garden Show, and leads wonderful garden tours to the South of France. Her
engaging lecture/workshop topics for the weekend will be Bouquets with
Personality, exploring how to discover and balance flowers’ personalities to
bring out the best in floral design (much like human relationships), and Till
Death Do Us Part, with techniques for extending the life of flowers and
arrangements.
The bloom-inspired weekend begins Friday evening with a
cocktail and hors d’oeuvres reception to meet and mingle with Lucinda and
Michael. Saturday’s program includes four lectures, a Garden Harvest lunch with
a menu of edible flowers and micro greens, a cocktail reception, book signing,
and sit down dinner. On Sunday, there will be a Mansion and Garden Tour at Marsh
Billings Rockefeller National Historical Park, a Rockefeller family legacy and a
lovely, easy walk from the Woodstock Inn & Resort.
The Bed and Flower Weekend package, priced at $778 for
double occupancy and $633 single occupancy, includes premium accommodations,
special welcome gift basket, breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, Saturday lunch
and dinner, two cocktail receptions, the lectures, and garden tour.
One of the 500 greatest hotels in the world (according to
Travel + Leisure), the Woodstock Inn & Resort was the inspiration of Laurance S.
Rockefeller. Defining country sophistication, the 142-room AAA Four Diamond
Resort offers award-winning dining in four restaurants, notably the Main Dining
Room, which is ranked among the finest in New England. There is a fully-equipped
Health & Fitness Center with an indoor swimming pool, tennis, squash,
racquetball, massage, sauna, aerobics, aqua aerobics, and other classes, and
convenient shuttle service to all facilities. During the spring, summer, and
fall, recreational activities and facilities include a challenging 18-hole
Robert Trent Jones Sr. golf course, tennis, biking, hiking, horseback riding,
fishing, and bird watching.
Guests can also enjoy the beauty and recreational
opportunities of the Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Historical Park and the
Billings Farm and Museum, a working dairy farm reflecting rural Vermont life at
the turn of the 20th century, both within walking distance of the Inn, as is the
lovely town of Woodstock, often referred to as the “prettiest small town in
America.”
