Hilton Redo In Cabo, WOW!
By Susan R Norton
I hadn’t been to Cabo San Lucas in Baja, Mexico for years,
and has it ever grown up into a first class travel destination, especially the
impressive Hilton Los Cabos Beach and Golf Resort, rated a AAA Four Diamond
hotel. It is located on the resort dotted 19 mile corridor that runs
parallel to the Sea of Cortés, and proudly publicizes that it has the only
swimming beach along that corridor.
Beny Alagem, hotel magnet who bought the famous Beverly
Hills Hilton Hotel from Merv Griffin, recently purchased this Mexican Hilton
jewel. Even though it was only five years old, Alagem began a multi million
dollar facelift, especially on the 375 rooms. The standard rooms are
546 sq. feet, all with ocean views, large balconies, huge and sumptuous
bathrooms and L’Occitane bath amenities. To mention some of the
most unusual features: you can have your choice of several pillow types, a Sealy Posturepedic pillow top mattress to “die” for, a room safe large enough to hold
a laptop, daily cards to select a bedtime turndown snack (sweet, salty or
fruit), a ceiling fan, cable LCD TV. and free water spritzing and ipods by the
pools. What a deal!

I got the unexpected treat of a quick walk-through of the 2
bedroom Presidential suite, a mere 4,460 sq. ft. with an outdoor Jacuzzi that
fits 4 people off one bedroom and an outdoor Jacuzzi that fits 2 people off the
other bedroom. Actually though, I already felt like one of “the rich and famous”
in my standard suite.

I was quite impressed with the state of the art fitness
center. The treadmills, elliptical trainers and bicycles are all by Precor, and
had individual televisions. The weight equipment was by Paramount, and
the room was surrounded by mirrors and windows, giving it a very open feeling.
It was almost pleasurable to work-out there.
I
wouldn’t call myself a SPA aficionado but I am a SPA groupie, and I found the
Hilton’s to be quite wonderful. Among the list of 47 treatments, anyone can find
a blissful experience to try. There is everything from a coffee exfoliation to
massages for pregnant women and golfers, and they even have spa activities for
children, ages four to twelve (massages, a Baja herbal foot soak and
reflexology). I decided to try a Thai Yoga massage for 110 minutes that moved my
body through a variety of Yoga postures and stretches and promised to restore my
energy, which it gratefully did.
Thanks to my spa treat, I was more than ready to take on my
upcoming swim with the dolphins. It passed much too quickly and is not to be
missed. Since I was down in the town of Cabo, I chose a cruise on The Caborey
with an open bar, dinner and a show with fast-paced Gaucho and Tango dancers.
They were so great, it was like watching a ballroom dance competition.

Even though I didn’t try it myself, you might want to know
about a Bloodless Bullring Show every Thursday at 7 p.m. You can fulfill your
craziest desires to temp Fate and have a try at a cow with attached bullhorns.
It smacks of another reality show in the making!

But back to the Hilton, it is definitely a place where you
can practice and master the art of doing nothing at all whether at the beckoning
infinity-edge pools or on the cabana dotted beach. One of the best gastronomical experiences of my life was at the hotel’s Fenicia
restaurant where Mediterranean cuisine actually sweeps you off your feet along
with an elegant ambiance and unbeatable views of the Sea of Cortés.
Take it from one who knows resorts, where Mexico is
concerned, I couldn’t urge you enough to schedule as much time as you can manage
at the Hilton Los Cabos. They really do it right.
