TITAS PRESENTS THE LEGENDARY KRONOS QUARTET, AND THE DALLAS DEBUT OF SUN RINGS

Edited by Madelyn Miller, the Travellady

String quartet accompanied by Dallas’ own Turtle Creek Chorale and The Women’s Chorus of Dallas

The 2006-2007 TITAS Season comes to a close on a high note with the renowned KRONOS QUARTET on Monday, May 7, 2007 at 8:00 PM, at SMU’s McFarlin Auditorium. They will be performing the stunning Sun Rings, a Terry Riley composition, with vocal accompaniment by Turtle Creek Chorale and The Women’s Chorus of Dallas, a large-scale piece that features incredible visuals and soaring musicianship. “Space sounds swirl in the air; galaxies carpet the walls and ceiling; and Riley’s generous melodies flow through Kronos’ four string instruments. The audience sat in spellbound silence the way spectators do at a space launch.” (Los Angeles Times)

For more than 30 years, the Kronos Quartet—David Harrington and John Sherba (violins), Hank Dutt (viola) and Jeffrey Zeigler (cello)—has pursued a singular artistic vision, combining a spirit of fearless exploration with a commitment to expanding the range and context of the string quartet. In the process, Kronos has become one of the most celebrated and influential ensembles of our time, performing thousands of concerts worldwide, releasing more than 40 recordings of extraordinary breadth and creativity, collaborating with many of the world's most eclectic composers and performers, and commissioning hundreds of works and arrangements for string quartet. Kronos' work has also garnered numerous awards, including a Grammy for Best Chamber Music Performance (2004) and "Musicians of the Year" (2003) from Musical America.
