A Mother's Treat Becomes a Tool in the
Fight Against Breast Cancer
Atlanta Chef Perfects Mom’s Homemade Hot Chocolate and Helps Find A Cure
Breast Cancer Awareness month is just around the corner
and what easier way to show your support than enjoying a cup of homemade hot
chocolate. Chef Hilly Blondheim has put his culinary skills to good use and
turned a simple boyhood treat into a life-saving instrument in the fight
against breast cancer. Whether its sprinkled on top of fruit or ice cream,
to enhance the flavor of coffee or a smoothie, blended into waffle or
pancake batter, used in a chocolate martini, sampled as fondue, or simply to
make the best cup of hot chocolate you have ever tasted, the possibilities
for this gourmet chocolate mix are endless.
While attending culinary school in Atlanta, Chef Hilly
decided to perfect his mom’s homemade hot chocolate recipe he and his
brother enjoyed as children. He began sending it to friends as holiday gifts
and received rave reviews!
Later, Chef Hilly’s mother, Joy, was diagnosed with
breast cancer. As a result of his mother’s fight and his own determination
to make a difference, he decided to turn his gifts into something more. And
so it began in his kitchen in August 2001. He made his perfected recipe,
bought some novelty jars and filled them up. Then he set out to convince
local businesses to put the jars in their stores on consignment. They all
agreed and soon Chef Hilly’s phone was ringing off the hook. Chef Hilly’s
Kitchen was born!
Joy Blondheim is now a five-year cancer survivor and in
September 2001 founded the Joy to Life Foundation, a non-profit organization
providing free mammograms for medically underserved women less than 50 years
of age, with her husband Richard. For every jar of Chef Hilly’s Kitchen
Gourmet Chocolate Blend sold, a portion of the proceeds is donated to the
Joy to Life Foundation. Today, Chef Hilly has sold more than 4,000 jars and
donated thousands of dollars to the effort.
This one of a kind chocolate blend makes a great
corporate or holiday gift and can be used in a multitude of recipes. His
creamy and versatile mix is the perfect gift for any occasion, tastes
delicious and most importantly benefits a worthy cause. A new chocolate
blend recipe will be featured at
www.chefhillyskitchen.com each month. Log on to try out tasty new
recipes that others have discovered or just share your own!
Chef Hilly’s Kitchen Gourmet Chocolate Blend is
available in its original glass jar packaging and can be purchased online or
at select Neiman Marcus stores in its exclusive retro style paint can
design. During October, Chef Hilly will make appearances at stores in
Atlanta and Dallas, with Chicago, Hawaii and Los Angeles to follow in
November. Appearance dates and locations will be announced shortly.
Chef Hilly’s Gourmet Blend is nominated for Best Drink,
Best Chocolate and Best Packaging at the Atlanta Gourmet Show to be held
September 21-24, 2002 at the Atlanta Apparel Mart.
