Want to Ski the Freshest Powder?

With 38” in 24 hours and 66” in 7 days,
Alyeska Resort offers winter to Alaska.

The snow continues to fall in the Girdwood valley and the upper elevations of Mt. Alyeska have enjoyed over 66” of snow in the last 7 days and over 119” since November.  The recent snow storm puts Alyeska Resort on top of the snow charts of OntheSnow.com and other snow reporting services.  OntheSnow.com tracks the snow report of resorts across the U.S. and Canada.  In February 2003, Alyeska Resort previously topped the chart with a 48 hour
accumulation of 42”.

The recent snowfall brings Alyeska Resort closer to opening additional terrain.  Currently, skiing and snowboarding is limited to the lower mountain serviced by Chairs 3 and 4 with Chair 7 operating on weekends. “We have the snow we need to open the upper mountain,” said Larry Daniels, general manager for Alyeska Ski Area.  “Once our snow safety crews analyze and secure the area our patrol crews will begin to prepare the terrain for the public.  Terrain preparation generally takes 3-5 days to install boundary ropes and signs and for trails to be groomed.” On Wednesday, Alyeska reports 61” of snow at the top (2,750’ above sea level), 60” at midway (1,500’), and 10” at the base (250’).

Skiers and snowboarders are encouraged to call the SKI-SNOW hotline (907-754-7669) for the most accurate lift, weather, and trail conditions.  Detailed information about winter events, mountain operations, lift ticket prices, and current snow conditions are also available at www.alyeskaresort.com
