Iceland and Food Fun Festival - Reykjavík , Iceland

Edited by Madelyn Miller, the TravelLady

Add fire and ice to your romance with an adventure for two in Iceland. Taking place in a city known for its cool nightlife and hot geothermal pools, haute cuisine and haute couture, and proximity to spectacular mountains, lava fields, and black sand beaches brings each year the country's most celebrated event. With Reykjavík's mix of antique Nordic architecture and ultra-hip modern style, you'll find the ideal backdrop for sexy evenings out.

"Romancing the Stone"
So, postpone your romantic Valentine's rendez-vous for the seventh annual Iceland Food and Fun Festival, taking place in Reykjavík from February 20-25, 2008. Learning about Icelandic sustainable food is the real focus of the festival, where world-acclaimed chefs collaborate with Iceland's top chefs and restaurants to create special menus made exclusively from Icelandic ingredients. I attended this festival in 2000 and loved every delicious minute of it

The menus are served throughout the week at these restaurants where the chefs themselves are on location during the five-day festival to demonstrate and discuss their creations.

The Ice Chef
On the last day of the festival, a one-of-a-kind culinary competition occurs. The visiting chefs, who have never previously worked with Icelandic ingredients, are given 60 minutes to shop for them at a nearby supermarket and three hours to put them together in haute cuisine preparations. Presented at the Reykjavík Art Museum, the competition is possibly the food world's most exciting and unusual competitive events. And the "Ice-ing" on the cake is that the festival is FREE! [Each restaurant serves a four-course dinner, ranging from $80-$100.]
