TITAS continues the 2007-08 Music Season with the debut performance by African vocalist ANGELIQUE KIDJO on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at 8:00 PM at McFarlin Auditorium.

“Kidjo demands your undivided attention with her electrifying stage presence and forceful voice.” (Village Voice)

Angelique Kidjo has cross-pollinated the West African traditions of her childhood in Benin with elements of American R&B, funk and jazz, as well as influences from Europe and Latin America. Throughout her career, she has collaborated with a diverse group of international artists like Carlos Santana and Gilberto Gil. Her duet with Dave Matthews on the song Iwoya, which appeared on her last record Black Ivory Soul, was a critical success that helped diversify her fan base.

In the course of her successful career Angélique Kidjo has spread her rhythmic Afro-funk fusion to the four corners of the globe. With her fun-loving personality, her on-stage charisma and her totally unique voice, Ms. Kidjo is certainly one of the most popular artists on the current world scene.

On February 10, at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards, Ms. Kidjo won her first Grammy, after four previous nominations, for best contemporary world music album for her most recent release, Djin Djin.
