Four Weddings and a…Beer-Drinking Goat?

Many towns can claim that the mayor’s an old goat. Just as many can claim that the mayor sure likes his beer. Not many have the privilege of beer-drinking goat for mayor—it’s true. Clay Henry the III is the political pride and joy of Lajitas and most days he can be found holding court at the Trading Post or in some cases, as a special guest at the groom’s bachelor party! This is only some of the cowboy charm that flourishes at Lajitas, the Ultimate Hideout. From cowboy adventure to sophisticated Texas lure, Lajitas offers something unique for every wedding party. More than you imagined, more than you knew, Big Bend is a rich and rewarding wedding destination. Along the banks of the Rio Grande, amidst the mystic Chisos mountains, there's a legacy of cowboys, a gourmet blend of indigenous ingredients and regional game, and the relaxation of a secluded full-service, luxury resort.

Situated remotely between Big Bend National Park and Big Bend State Park, most guests arrive by private jet. Lajitas offers service on a fleet of Learjets, seating six to eight passengers each, for travel from all major cities in Texas in under one hour. The wedding festivities begin on the runway as the wedding party is whisked away, the bride’s party in one jet, the groom’s in another. Larger parties and other guests fly into Midland, TX and then travel to Lajitas aboard a chartered luxury coach.

Lajitas makes dreams come true, offering complete amenities for a wedding away including catering, pastry design, floral arrangement, entertainment, and event coordination. An on-site wedding coordinator is available to ensure an impeccably planned event and offer a perfect venue for every wedding theme—whether it’s classic couture in the ballroom amidst elaborate eccentricity; Victorian flair on the gazebo garlanded in roses and lilies; or simple elegance on a starry, starry night with a wine and cheese picnic to share.

A true Western wedding begins with a ceremony in the historic 1800’s Santa Maria Y San Jose Mission Chapel—newly restored with saltillo tile, adobe walls and hand-painted artistry, maintaining it’s original charm. The stagecoach then carries the bride and groom straight through town to the Western boardwalk where a chuckwagon dinner of Applewood Smoked Bandera Quail; Pork Tenderloin stuffed with a Homemade Chorizo; and all the gourmet “fixin’s” await your party. Live country music encourages Western dance and friends and family gather ‘round on bails of hay to take in the festivities.

Lavish accommodations are the setting at Lajitas with 80 guestrooms—the spectacular junior suites of the Officer’s Quarters with private patios overlooking the Ambush golf course; one-room suites at ranch-style La Cuesta; luxuriant cowboy décor at the Cavalry Post; and red velvet laden, bordello rooms at the Badlands Hotel.

Guests may do as much or as little as they choose during their stay at the 25,000-acre estate. From breakfast trail rides to poolside margaritas or an evening of live music at the Thirsty Goat Saloon, the wedding party and friends have plenty of activity. Tee times on the Ambush—our world-class, 18-hole golf course—may be scheduled for the fathers and the groomsmen, while the bridesmaids’ brunch on the patio of the Candelilla Café, before a day’s retreat to the Agavita Spa for pampering facials, body treatments and massages. All the while anxious mothers of the bride and groom shop along the boardwalk for a moment of peace.

A relaxed, yet elegant atmosphere prevails at the Ocotillo Restaurant, with rich cowboy décor and the bold vibrant artwork of Shanny Lott. An ideal location for the rehearsal dinner or cocktail party, the Ocotillo has an expansive bar, third-level observatory with unmatched views of the Rio Grande and Mexico, and three dining rooms. The wine cellar below promises an even more intimate dining affair. And for those that prefer that Northern Exposure experience, don’t forget-- you can always wander down to the boardwalk for beer with the mayor!

Catering to the elite traveler, Texas' first resort honored as a Leading Hotel of the World, Lajitas, The Ultimate Hideout, is a luxury development offering a boutique resort of 72 luxury accommodations, property sales, private members golf club, 2 restaurants, equestrian center, hunt club and more.
