Legends of Rock Photography Heads For Mumm Napa

Edited by Madelyn Miller, the TravelLady

Landmark Exhibit Opens September 17, 2005

Rock and roll’s legendary photographers are headed to the Mumm Napa Fine Art Photography Gallery this September for a special exhibit highlighting four decades of popular music.  The exhibit opens September 17 and runs through March 13, 2006.

Mumm Napa will host a sparkling wine reception on Saturday, September 17, at 6:30 p.m. at the winery in Rutherford, CA, to introduce the new Legends of Rock Photography exhibit.

The Legends of Rock Photography exhibit captures the world’s most rambunctious and rebellious musical art form, seen through photographic images, and celebrated in publications such as Rolling Stone, Cream, Spin and Life magazines, and on thousands of record album covers.  This is the first collaboration of work from this group of renowned photographers, and many of the images first published in these magazines will be on exhibit at Mumm Napa Winery in Rutherford, CA beginning September 17.

The exhibit showcases 120 images from noted photographers, including: Baron Wolman, Rolling Stone’s first staff photographer; Lynn Goldsmith, rock’s first lady of portraiture and tour photography; Jim Marshall, the wild man of rock and author of the recently acclaimed photography book Proof; and George Rose, whose rock images appeared daily on the pages of the Los Angeles Times.  Also on display will be images by Ethan Russell, Mick Rock, Henry Diltz, Michael Zagaris and Fernando Aceves.  The show will include photographs of such legends of rock as Mick Jagger, Pete Townshend, Janis Joplin, Keith Richards and many others.

Mumm Napa is one of California’s top sparkling wine producers and a popular destination for wine country visitors.  For more than 20 years, Mumm Napa sparkling wines have set the standard for California méthode champenoise, emphasizing natural ripeness and exceptional Napa Valley character.  The winery and visitors’ center is located in Rutherford along the Silverado Trail and is open daily for tours, tastings and private events.  Visitor center and gallery hours are 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  There is no charge to view the exhibit.

Mumm Napa Winery is located at 8445 Silverado Trail, Rutherford, CA  94573.  For additional information on visiting the winery and its exhibits, call 707-967-7700 or access the Mumm Napa website at www.mummnapa.com.  As part of its ongoing commitment to fine art photography and in addition to the new Legends of Rock Photography exhibit, Mumm Napa’s “Private Collection” Gallery features an exclusive collection of original fine art photographs by the legendary landscape photographer Ansel Adams.
