A Late and Great Place to eat in New York City
Bruno Jamais
By Madelyn Miller, the TravelLady

One of the responsibilities of being a food writer is not
just discovering new restaurants and accurately reporting about them. You become
a community resource for family and friends who expect you to know all the best
new places as well as recommending the established favorites. People who know
how much I travel, and how much I like to eat, often call to ask—know any good
new restaurants in New York.
Bruno Jamais is not really a new restaurant –it is just new
to me. It has all the best parts of a new restaurant—that shiny service patina,
that eager to please energy and enthusiasm, and a sophisticated setting that is
worthy of the marvelous menu.
I was traveling with a foodie friend, but the restaurant
responsibility still fell to me. I consulted contacts, read reviews and really
did my homework to find the best places for us to enjoy five Manhattan meals.
Bruno Jamais was the first and it really set the benchmark
for the others.
Positively Pedigreed
With a restaurant resume as spectacular as this, it really
is no surprise that Bruno Jamais is so wonderful
Bruno Jamais, the owner was the Maitre D at the famed

The Maitre D, Jacques LeMagueresse is a former managing
partner at Cello and has also presided over Le Bernadin and Lutece.

WHERE THE RICH AND FAMOUS DINE

Celeb diners have included Bill Clinton, Peter Cook,
Billy Baldwin, Chazz Palminteri, Chris Noth, Fat Joe, The Gastineau Girls,
Spike Lee, Kim Cattral, and Fergie, the Duchess of York, Joan Rivers, and Cindy
Adams…and of course me and my friend Sharon.

Our waiter treated us like we were celebrities...but what
really charmed us was the food
THE MENU
We started with a seasonal amuse, and then were given a red
pepper jam to spread on hot crusty bread. It was hard to remember to stop eating
it so we would still have room for dinner.

I started with caviar blinis –a favorite of mine that are
not frequently on menus. A most memorable presentation of this dish.

Although you may not taste the exact dishes we tried—I
think everything on the menu is probably a good bet. They are famous for
lobster.

A VERY HAPPY ENDING
After a perfect meal, we almost didn’t order dessert. But
someone had raved about their chocolate soufflé and I can never resist anything
chocolate. And the soufflé certainly rose to the heights of the rest of the rest
of the meal.

REMEMBER THIS WHEN ITS LATE AT NIGHT

This is one of the few places on New York’s Upper East
Side where one can dine in style until 3am. There is also live entertainment
several nights a week.
Bruno Jamais is open on Sundays for "Disco Sundays" and
will include a reduced price menu to attract and a younger and more late night
crowd.
Every Sunday 6pm to 2am
Live Music Entertainment
Prix fixe 1 course $25 2 course $37 3 course $42
This is also an ideal venue for corporate meetings,
weddings, rehearsal dinners, and bridal showers in addition to all corporate
parties.
I am pleased to say my dining companion was as impressed as
I was and couldn’t wait to read what I had to say.
