Inn to Inn Chocolate March in Rockland Maine
By Fran Folsom
“What you see before you my friend, is the result of a
lifetime of chocolate...Katherine Hepburn.
For one weekend in March the coastal town of Rockland Maine
treats chocolate as if it were the Holy Grail. The Inn to Inn Chocolate March,
March 9th –11th, is when many of Rockland’s businesses join with the Historic
Inns of Rockland to pay homage to chocolate.
You
can start your nibbling Saturday morning, while strolling down Main Street stop
into the Atlantic Baking Company for some of their mudslide cookies. At Pollack’s Jewelry you
can pick out a little bling for yourself while munching more chocolate.
Spend a few hours Saturday afternoon at the historic Strand
Theater munching chocolate covered popcorn and watching Like Water for
Chocolate, or at the Waterworks Pub devouring your way through the Deliciously
Decadent Double Chocolate Brownie Sundae eating contest.
The chefs at the Pastry Garden will be demonstrating how to
make their luscious chocolate truffles. At Critter Outfitter’s you can pick up
some chocolate carob biscuits for the dog in your life. Next door at the Puffins
Nest owner Annie Hoppe offers human treats, moose chunk cookies. The heady scent
of chocolate soup greets you as you enter the cozy shop Treasures from The
Heart.
End the day at Nordstrom’s Spa with a butter body and foot
scrub. You’ll feel like a new person, ready for more chocolate, and the main
event, Sunday’s inn to inn Chocolate March, when the Berry Manor, Limerock and
Captain Lindsey House inns offer tours, chocolate demonstrations and, best of
all, chocolate tastings.
Spending the weekend eating all this chocolate is for a
good cause, $5.00 from every ticket purchased for this event will be donated to
the United Mid-Coast Charities of Maine, benefiting sixty local non-profit
organizations.
