The Most Peaceful and Relaxing Place in Cancún

By Madelyn Miller

Most people go to Cancún for the beautiful beaches, the shimmering sands and sunny skies. While I certainly enjoyed all those things on my last visit to Cancún, I discovered something new.

Royal ResortLuckily, I was staying at the Royal Sands. And I certainly got the Royal treatment at the Royal Spa. With the opening of their beautiful new spa, I would be happy to spend all my time indoors under the ministrations of their talented and nurturing staff. This world class spa is exclusively for guests of Royal Resorts. And another insider tip is that you don't have to actually own a week at the resort to stay there, you can rent unused weeks in this palacial resort for a surprisingly nominal sum. Good value and a good massage-that is my kind of place.

The Sands SpaThis luxurious spa is located adjacent to the Royal Sands, a Five Star beachfront resort in Cancún. The 17,000-square-foot spa is for the exclusive use of guests staying at any Royal Resorts property. The world-class spa facility includes steam rooms, saunas, Jacuzzis, inhalation rooms and high-pressure Swiss showers. There are 12 treatment rooms, including two lavishly decorated private suites with Jacuzzis for couples only.

A complete fitness center with Life Fitness weight training and cardiovascular equipment, as well as aerobics classes, allows guests to continue their exercise program while away from home. Separate locker rooms for men and women offer numerous amenities such as shampoo, hair dryers, creams, robes and refreshments.

the spa"The opening of this world-class spa reinforces Royal Resorts' commitment to offer the finest services possible," said Richard Sutton, director of Royal Resorts. "The spa adds to the growing benefits we provide for our members and guests."

MORE BEAUTY SECRETS AND DRUG DEALS

Many people think that one of the best souvenirs from Mexico is drugs. Not illegal drugs-just prescription drugs that you can get at about 80% off. It used to be that whenever I went to Mexico I got "orders" for Retin-A. But now a friend told me about the next generation of skin cream—Stevia. It is the same as Renova, which costs $65 in the U.S. with a prescription. In Cancún I found it from $7 to $14.

The best place to buy any drugs in Cancún is Paris Drugstore. They truly have 25% off the marked price. If you are ordering in quantity, call a day ahead to make sure they stock what you need. Note: they do not have a great exchange rate for U.S. Dollars, so get your pesos somewhere else. Hey, what can you expect, good prices and good exchange rates? I guess they have to make their money somewhere.

Another tip is to buy your Stevia at Walmart of Sam's in Cancún. Although these are membership clubs, it seems like they are a little lax on checking your card. If you say you are a member and look like a gringo, they seem to let you in. This is a little out of the way, but if you are getting quantities, it is the very cheapest place for drugs.

Cancún-based Royal Resorts, voted number one by the Timeshare Users Group as well as receiving the coveted Five Star Award annually from Interval International since its inception in 1983, has more than 45,000 members. The company currently operates the Royal Reef and Grand Caymanian in the Cayman Islands, and five resorts in Cancún including the Royal Sands, Royal Islander, Royal Caribbean, Royal Mayan and Club Internacional de Cancn. For more information on Royal Resorts' membership programs or rental availability, call 1-888-373-5959 from the U.S., or from Cancún call 81-0100.
