TITAS Presents the Dallas Debut of Gaelic Storm
Celebrate St. Patrick's Day with the Party Band from TITANIC
TITAS puts the finishing touches on the 2000-2001 Music Season with a special St. Patrick's Day presentation of Gaelic Storm, a band that
Billboard described as "Guinness for the ears," at 8 p.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2001 at McFarlin Auditorium. The band was chosen to be the "Steerage Party Band" in James Cameron's blockbuster film Titanic, and they have been drawing record-breaking crowds at concerts and Irish festivals around the U.S. and Europe. "Non-stop music and laughs...an energy so powerful you can't do anything but join in the fun." (Celebtalk)
Gaelic Storm (whose slogan is "Irish music with thunder and lightning") has quickly gained a reputation for playing fast-paced traditional Irish tunes that force listeners out of their seats and on to the dance floor. They combine driving instrumentals with haunting ballads and rollicking drinking songs to create an atmosphere that is explosively energetic. The band earned nominations for "performers of the year" in 1999 and 2000 by the National Association of Campus Activities, and Cinemax produced a mini-documentary on the group that airs regularly. In 1998, the band was signed to Higher Octave Records (owned by Virgin Records). Their self-titled first album debuted at number 8 on the Billboard World Music charts and was described as "reminiscent of early Chieftains' recordings." The album remained on the charts for more than 30 weeks. Their second CD, Herding Cats, was released in the Fall of 1999 and received even more enthusiastic reviews from both alternative and mainstream music magazines like Dirty Linen and Request. Their latest CD, Tree, will be released in June 2001.
With the five members blending their individual talents, Gaelic Storm performs what is best described as real music about real situations and real
feelings. It's essentially pub music that, whether performed in clubs, theaters, or outdoor festivals, never fails to leave audiences reeling, dancing, and screaming for more. More information on the band is available on their official website.
Tickets ($10-$52) for Gaelic Storm are available at the TITAS Box Office, 3101 North Fitzhugh, Suite 301, Dallas, TX or by phoning 214-528-5576, faxing 214-528-0126, or through Star Tickets at 888-597-STAR, at any Albertson's store or at the Star Tickets website.
