Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth to Exhibit Work From the Absolut Vodka Art Collection

HaringThe Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth presents a rare opportunity to view original works from ABSOLUT VODKA's extensive art collection. ABSOLUT MODERN will be on view at the Museum's annex, The Modern at Sundance Square, March 31-May 20, 2001. This is a repeat showing of last year's ABSOLUT MODERN exhibition that was closed suddenly due to the tornadoes that ravaged downtown Fort Worth on March 28, 2000. The exhibition opens on Saturday, March 31 in conjunction with Fort Worth's Spring Gallery Night. ABSOLUT ARTI GRAS, a special fundraising party benefiting the Modern and the Emergency Artists Support League (EASL) will be the highlight of the evening.

ScharfABSOLUT has commissioned many of the leading artists of our time to develop their own personal interpretations of the classic ABSOLUT VODKA bottle. Regardless of the artist, country, or type of work, every piece of art commissioned by ABSOLUT reflects both the vision of the artist and the spirit of ABSOLUT VODKA. ABSOLUT's work with artists began in 1985 with the commissioning of Pop artist Andy Warhol. His dramatic and colorful depiction of the well-known bottle has since become legendary. Warhol's painting became an advertisement titled ABSOLUT WARHOL, launching ABSOLUT's art-themed advertising program and leading the way for generations of future artists to create ABSOLUT art. The ABSOLUT VODKA bottle has become an icon of modern design. Its timeless shape and clean lines have been an inspiration for creative expression for hundreds of artists in all disciplines, helping to make ABSOLUT one of the most recognizable symbols of the 20th century. To date, more than 500 artists worldwide have been commissioned by ABSOLUT. ABSOLUT commissions artists who work in a variety of mediums including painting, sculpture, photography, jewelry, glasswork, woodwork, folk art, and computer/digital art. Although not all works commissioned are used as advertisements, many are shown in exhibitions and at cultural events.

WarholABSOLUT MODERN will feature original works by Ross Bleckner, Keith Haring, David Levinthal, Vik Muniz, Helmut Newton, Ed Ruscha, Kenny Scharf, Donald Sultan, and Andy Warhol, among others. The Modern at Sundance Square is open seven days a week. Admission is free. Hours are Monday-Thursday 11 am-6 pm, Friday-Saturday 11 am-10 pm, and Sunday 1-5 pm.
