Colorado Wine Country

Annual Colorado Mountain Winefest

by Dave Shultz

When you think about the United States wine industry, you probably think of California first.  But, Colorado has a thriving wine economy and shouldn't be overlooked if you like wine festivals and tastings.

The 10th Annual Colorado Mountain Winefest will be held Friday, September 14th this year in both Grand Junction and Palisade.  The Festival in the Park grand tasting and amateur winemaking competition will be held in Palisade's park on Saturday, September 15th after a bicycle ride through the vineyards. (Please check http://www.coloradowinefest.com/ for current festival dates and information.)

Special tastings and seminars will happen at the Grand Valley wineries as well as other wineries in the surrounding region on Sunday.

There is a new Colorado Wine Country Brochure featuring the 28 wineries and numerous tasting rooms available by calling (720) 304-3406 or by visiting their website www.coloradowine.com   Most of these wineries are small, family-owned estates and they enjoy a well-earned reputation for creating a wide variety of premium wines.  Colorado's warm days, cool nights, low humidity and abundant sunshine produce grapes with the complex character required to produce award-winning wines.
