Romancing the Vine

The Best Places in the World to Propose
A Man's Point of View

by Dave Shultz

When it comes to proposing, some men may need a little artificial stimulant to help the stutter and shake that comes with proposal panic.  Why not spend some time in wine country where you can tour some vineyards, visit some tasting rooms and be assured of a quality supply of vino at the local restaurants.  Some of my choices to consider would be the great B&B's and Inn's in Monterey County, California.

When You Go

If you travel to the Monterey area, there are lots of romantic things to do.  First, visit some wineries.  You might want to pack a picnic lunch and dive up into the hills that make up the Monterey Wine Country.  You'll find over 40 different wineries and 12 have tasting rooms open to the public.

The Monterey Bay Marine Sanctuary from above, below or on the water is a memorable destination.  Take a kayak tour of the harbor with Adventures by the Sea, get a birds-eye view from a hang glider at Western Hang Gliders, Inc., or rent some scuba gear from Aquarius Dive Shop and see the bay the way the fish do.

Don't forget her favorite thing to do - Shopping.  Take a day to enjoy Carmel's fine shopping in the downtown area.  The Barnyard Crossroads is a good place to start.  You can also tour more than 70 art galleries in Carmel.  Finish up your day at one of the romantic coffeehouses with spectacular views of Carmel's shimmering white sand.

If for some reason, the shopping expedition wasn't enough, give her a pampered day at one of the Peninsulas day spas for an afternoon of massage, facials, pedicures and sauna.  Try Le Spa in Carmel, Spa on the Plaza in Monterey or Impressions Massage Group in Pebble Beach.  She will be very relaxed and in a grateful mood when you finally get up the nerve to pop the question.
